PDRM Deploys Over 300 Personnel To Curb Diesel Smuggling Along Borders – IGP

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has deployed over 300 personnel to border-area petrol stations to proactively prevent diesel smuggling and misuse.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said this follows the government’s announcement of a new subsidised diesel price for locals, set at RM2.10 per litre from July 1.

“PDRM is responsible for deploying personnel to monitor petrol stations in border areas and prevent smuggling.

“Meanwhile, agencies such as the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) focus on monitoring trade and enforcing regulations at the point of sale. Both agencies cooperate to ensure smuggling activities across borders are stamped out at source,” he said.

He said this after officiating the 42nd annual general meeting of the Retired Senior Police Officers Association of Malaysia (RESPA) at the PDRM College in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, today.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on Sunday that subsidised diesel for Malaysians will be lowered to RM2.10 per litre starting next month, which will be carried out through subsidy targeting reforms using MyKad verification, in line with the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme.
