PM Anwar Praises Communications Ministry’s Effectiveness In Explaining BUDI95

PUTRAJAYA, June 8 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised the Communications Ministry's effectiveness in communicating the implementation of BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95), describing it as one of the best examples of government communication in explaining policies to the people. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the clear and effective explanation of the initiative had helped improve public understanding and reduce confusion over the implementation of BUDI95. "I believe this ministry's greatest success is in relation to BUDI95. When a clearer explanation is provided, it does not create many problems. "Once again, I congratulate our colleagues, Fahmi (Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil), the KSU (Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah) and the entire Communications Ministry workforce for their dedication in conveying information effectively to the people," he said. He said this while addressing the Communications Ministry's monthly assembly here today. Also present were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Communications Minister Datuk Teo Nie Ching and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. Anwar said that although there were still a small number of parties raising concerns over fuel price increases, the implementation of BUDI95 had demonstrated that effective communication could improve public acceptance of government policies. Oil And Gas Supply Secure, But Rising Prices Strain Govt Finances – PM Anwar

PUTRAJAYA, May 4 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the country’s oil and gas supply remains secure, but rising global fuel prices continue to strain government finances as it maintains the RON95 price at RM1.99 to protect the majority. He said disruptions and risks to international trade routes due to conflicts in West Asia have led to higher shipping and insurance costs, which in turn are affecting fuel prices. However, he added that Malaysia is still able to ensure sufficient domestic oil and gas supply through its good relations with Iran and other producing countries, including Russia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. “So, fuel supply is assured, but prices are rising. “This is not a problem originating from us, but from external factors. That is why we are compelled to face the challenge of rising fuel prices,” he said while delivering a speech and briefing on the issue at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability’s monthly assembly here today. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government is committed to ensuring that rising global oil prices do not burden the majority of the people through the implementation of the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) subsidy, despite having to bear a heavy financial cost. He said that at present, the government is spending RM5 billion a month on fuel subsidies, compared with RM700 million in January when the BUDI95 subsidy was introduced. “Malaysia is still maintaining the RON95 price (RM1.99 per litre)… if prices surge further, the subsidy could exceed RM6 billion a month. But for now, the government is bearing about RM5 billion a month. “In January, when I announced the RON95 subsidy, we were covering RM700 million a month. I thought that was manageable, as Malaysia is not a poor country,” he said. The Prime Minister urged all parties to understand that rising oil prices are a global reality and not the result of weaknesses in domestic policy. Oil prices rose above USD120 a barrel on Thursday after President Donald Trump warned Iran that a United States naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz could continue for several months. -- BERNAMA

MOF To Block MyKad Of Individuals Misusing RON95 Subsidy

KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Finance (MOF) will block the cards of individuals found to have abused the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) assistance programme by filling subsidised RON95 petrol into empty barrels or containers, as has gone viral recently. MOF stressed that such action clearly violates regulations because it constitutes misuse of fuel subsidies under the BUDI95 initiative and could affect the government's efforts to ensure transparent, targeted and effective subsidy management. "Investigations found that the individual involved is a Malaysian and a MyKad holder. Following that, the MOF will take action by blocking the identity card used during that transaction, as well as the vehicle owner, from continuing to enjoy BUDI95,” it said in a statement today. The government, the MOF said, will not compromise on any form of subsidy leakages and misuse, especially amid current uncertainties that require close control over fuel supply and prices. Earlier, a video clip went viral depicting two individuals at a petrol station filling subsidised RON95 petrol into a container placed in the boot of a vehicle. According to the MOF, enforcement actions will continue to be intensified to curb such irresponsible activities, adding that the government appreciates the efforts of caring members of the public in channelling complaints regarding this matter. Members of the public are encouraged to continue providing information and lodging complaints if they detect any suspicious activities related to subsidy distribution by contacting the BUDI MADANI Service Centre at 1300-88-9595, via WhatsApp +603-26314595 or by email at budimadani@treasury.gov.my.
