KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 30 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has officiated the launch of the new Malaysian International Passport (PMA) at the Parliament of Malaysia, introducing a significantly upgraded document designed to strengthen national security and curb forgery and misuse.
The newly designed passport features 94 advanced security elements, an increase from 49 in the previous version, making it more resistant to tampering and counterfeiting. Beginning 1 July, Malaysians will also have the option to choose their passport validity period of either five or ten years, offering greater flexibility to applicants.
Authorities emphasized that there is no need for the public to rush to replace existing passports, as current documents remain valid until six months before their expiration date. The rollout of the new passport will be implemented gradually nationwide to ensure a smooth transition.
