KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today hosted an afternoon banquet in honour of Timor-Leste President Dr. José Ramos-Horta, who is on a special visit to Malaysia, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
Anwar said Malaysia highly values its close relationship with Timor-Leste as a neighbouring nation and a member of the ASEAN family, emphasizing the importance of fostering regional ties based on solidarity, mutual respect, and shared responsibility in maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity across the region.
During the banquet, both leaders exchanged views on expanding cooperation in several key areas, including economic and trade development, strategic investments, human capital development, education, and technical training.
They also explored new opportunities for collaboration that could drive sustainable economic growth while creating broader opportunities for the younger generations of both countries.
Anwar expressed confidence that the strong partnership between Malaysia and Timor-Leste would continue to deepen, contributing not only to the welfare and progress of both nations but also to the advancement of ASEAN as a whole.
President Ramos-Horta is currently undertaking a special visit to Malaysia aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and exploring avenues for greater regional cooperation.
