JOHOR BAHRU, June 23 — Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has officially announced 56 candidates who will contest under the PH banner in the upcoming Johor state election, expressing confidence that the coalition is entering the race with a strong record of achievement and a clear vision for the state's future, last night. Speaking at the candidate announcement event, Anwar said the selected candidates reflect Johor's diverse, multi-ethnic society and are committed to addressing local issues that are closest to the hearts of the people. He highlighted the Federal Government's achievements under the MADANI administration, stating that PH is contesting the election based on its proven track record and commitment to bringing meaningful change. "With the best track record at the federal level, we enter this election with a strong desire and determination to continue driving progress and reform," he said. Anwar stressed that Johor has received significant attention and support from the Federal Government, dismissing claims that the state has been overlooked. According to him, Johor contributes approximately RM14 billion annually to the Federation, while the Federal Government has returned more than RM16 billion through development projects, infrastructure improvements and welfare initiatives. "Johor has never been neglected. In fact, allocations and development spending for the state have increased every year. Johor receives the third-largest overall federal allocation among all states," he said. The Prime Minister also called for a healthy democratic process during the election campaign, urging all parties to compete fairly and responsibly. He stressed that political contests should not involve any institutions, including royal institutions, and warned against attempts to exploit ethnic and religious sentiments for political gain. "If you want to fight, get into the ring and compete with dignity. Fight based on facts and records, not by riding on royal institutions or inciting racial and religious sentiments solely to gain support," he said. "The people of Johor deserve to hear the best plans and offers for their future, not be influenced by hatred and division." Anwar reminded PH candidates that the election is not merely about securing power or positions but about fulfilling a responsibility to serve the people. "This election is a major mandate to work hard, solve the people's problems and build hope for a better Johor," he said. Ending his speech, Anwar rallied support for the coalition's campaign slogan, declaring: "Johor Forward. Vote for Hope." The Johor state election is expected to be one of the most closely watched political contests in the country, with major parties vying for support across the state's 56 constituencies. -- MINUTESMY
