SHAH ALAM — Police have completed investigations into a vehicle arson and criminal intimidation case in Taman Kinrara, Puchong, following the arrest of 12 suspects.
Selangor Police Chief Shazeli Kahar said the arrests were carried out between March 12 and yesterday during a joint operation involving the federal and state crime investigation departments.
Those detained comprised 11 men and one woman aged between 30 and 40.
“Of the 12 individuals arrested, seven suspects have been identified as having a direct link to the incident and are still under remand,” he told a press conference in Shah Alam today.
The remaining five individuals, including the wife of one of the suspects, have been released on police bail.
Police also seized several items believed to be linked to the incident, including three cars, two motorcycles, 14 mobile phones, a helmet and clothing.
Background checks revealed that five of the seven suspects currently under remand have prior criminal records.
However, urine screening tests conducted on all detainees returned negative results for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Sections 427, 506 and 435 of the Penal Code.
Shazeli said preliminary investigations indicated the incident stemmed from personal dissatisfaction, which led to acts of mischief and criminal intimidation.
He also confirmed that police have arrested the individual believed to be the mastermind behind the incident.
At the same time, he said investigations so far have found no evidence linking the case to gangsterism or secret society activities.
Shazeli urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation or provocative statements on social media that could disrupt public order while investigations are being finalised.
