KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — The Rice and Paddy Control (Amendment) Bill 2026 was formally introduced for its First Reading in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday, marking the first step in the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s paddy and rice industry.
The minister said the bill is scheduled to proceed to its Second and Third Readings during the current Dewan Rakyat meeting.
He expressed hope that the legislative process would proceed smoothly, adding that the proposed amendments are intended to enhance the management of Malaysia’s paddy and rice sector, protect the welfare of paddy farmers, and ensure a stable and sufficient rice supply for the nation.
The amendments form part of the government’s broader efforts to improve food security and strengthen the sustainability of the country’s rice industry.
