RM37.53 Billion Seized in Corporate Mafia Probe, RM4.3 Billion Frozen, Says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian authorities have seized RM37.53 billion in funds linked to investigations into alleged corporate mafia activities, while RM4.3 billion was frozen between late 2022 and September 2026, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

Anwar said the seizures by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) reflected the authorities’ commitment to combating financial crimes and enforcing the law.

He said investigators would provide further details on the funds and assets seized, frozen or forfeited, as well as the individuals involved.

Speaking during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday, Anwar said the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) investigative team had also seized RM1 billion in assets, forfeited RM48.3 million and imposed RM1.1 billion in compounds during the period.

He was responding to Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson), who sought an update on alleged corporate mafia activities and the enforcement actions taken against those involved.

Anwar added that funds recovered by the authorities had been returned to the government, with part of the proceeds used to settle debts linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Meanwhile, the Royal Malaysia Police’s AMLA team conducted enforcement operations, including Op Banking, which saw 70 individuals investigated as of 2026.

The operation involved the freezing and seizure of eight land plots, 11 vehicles, 417 Central Depository System (CDS) accounts, 72 share trading accounts worth RM323 million and 404 bank accounts containing RM85.6 million.

Anwar also said the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) had initiated 239 criminal charges involving 50 accounts or individuals since 2023, nearly three times the figure recorded in the previous year.

The SC is continuing investigations into several cases in which charges had previously been withdrawn, including those involving Serba Dinamik and Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd.
