PUTRAJAYA: The Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) has cancelled the registration of Perikatan Nasional (PN) after determining that the party’s explanation failed to address the grounds for cancellation stated in an earlier notice.
In a statement on Tuesday, RoS said the decision was made by the Registrar of Societies under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966 [Act 832].
The department said PN had been given an opportunity to submit its explanation and representations through a notice dated Sept 22, issued under subsection 13(2) of the same Act.
RoS received PN’s response on Oct 12 and subsequently reviewed the documents and explanations submitted by the party.
However, the Registrar found that PN’s representations failed to refute the grounds for cancellation outlined in the notice and did not provide sufficient justification to maintain its registration.
“Accordingly, the Registrar of Societies has decided to cancel the registration of Perikatan Nasional under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966,” the statement said.
RoS also stressed that all registered organisations are responsible for complying with the provisions of the Societies Act 1966 and their respective constitutions.
The department said it would continue to carry out its regulatory and enforcement duties firmly, fairly and in accordance with the law to ensure proper, transparent and accountable governance of registered organisations.
