PAS considers contesting traditional DAP seats in Negeri Sembilan polls

PETALING JAYA, JUNE 22 -- The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party PAS has not ruled out contesting several seats traditionally held by the Democratic Action Party DAP in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1. Negeri Sembilan PAS chief Fairuz Isa said the party is preparing to contest more than 10 seats, similar to its strategy in the 2023 state election, while also aiming to defend the three seats it currently holds. He said final seat allocations will depend on negotiations with other political partners, especially in the event of continued cooperation within the opposition bloc. “There are parties willing to work with us, and during seat negotiations, we may face limited Malay-majority seats to contest,” he was quoted as saying in Seremban. He added that PAS is considering seats currently held by Pakatan Harapan and DAP where Malay voters make up about 40% of the electorate. Fairuz said the party’s candidate selection process is about 90% complete, with emphasis on integrity, service capability, and candidates aged below 60. He also urged party members and machinery to respect and accept any final decision made by the leadership. In the 2023 state election, the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional won five of the 36 seats it contested. Within the coalition, PAS secured Paroi, Serting and Bagan Pinang, while Bersatu won Labu and Gemencheh. The Election Commission has set Aug 1 as polling day for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, with nomination day on July 18 and early voting on July 28. -- MINUTESMY

DAP announces four candidates to challenge in Johor state election

JOHOR BAHRU, JUNE 20 -- DAP today announced four candidates to contest in the Johor State Election (PRN) on July 11. The four candidates are Deputy Finance Minister's Private Secretary Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani, 38, who is set to contest in the Tiram State Legislative Assembly seat, while Johor DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) chief Lee Wern Yiing, 30, will contest in Johor Jaya. Meanwhile, special assistant to Kulai MP Mohamad Shafwan Ani, 33, has been placed to contest in the Bukit Permai state seat while former Senai state seat incumbent Wong Bor Yang, 40, has been entrusted with defending the seat in this state election. The announcement of the four candidates was made by DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke at the candidate announcement ceremony here today, which was also attended by Johor DAP Chairman Teo Nie Ching and his deputy Wong Shu Qi. Loke said that for the first time, the party decided to field a candidate to contest in the Tiram state constituency, which is a mixed seat, because it was confident that it would receive support and that the candidate chosen would be among the best. Touching on the skirmishes in the Senai and Bukit Permai state constituencies, Loke said it was part of Pakatan Harapan's (PH) strategy to fully control the state constituencies under the Kulai Parliament which has three state constituencies. "So our strategy is to capture these three seats because Bukit Batu (contested by PKR) and Senai are our incumbent seats. "This time DAP is contesting in the Bukit Permai area and we have already fielded a candidate (Mohamad Shafwan) who has experience in this area and has been actively involved in the field for the past nine years," he said. DAP Postpones National Congress, Gears Up for Johor and Negeri Sembilan State Polls

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5, 2026 — The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of Democratic Action Party (DAP) has postponed its 2026 National Congress to focus on the upcoming state elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. In a statement issued after its monthly meeting on Thursday night, DAP Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook announced that the party's National Congress, originally scheduled for July 12, will now be held on August 16, following the dissolution of the state legislative assemblies in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. DAP confirmed it will defend all seats currently held by the party in both states and is seeking to contest additional constituencies in Johor, subject to final negotiations with fellow partners in Pakatan Harapan. The party also announced the formation of a five-member candidate selection committee comprising Loke, Gobind Singh Deo, Nga Kor Ming, Teo Nie Ching and Chong Chieng Jen.
