MELAKA, Oct 30 – The Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) between the Federal Government, Bersatu and several Members of Parliament does not restrict the political decisions of any party, including ahead of the Melaka state election.
Melaka PKR acting chairman Adam Adli Abd Halim said all parties involved remained free to maintain their political positions.
He added that opposition MPs could continue performing their role in Parliament by providing checks and balances.
CSA Aims to Strengthen Government Administration
Adam Adli said the agreement would help strengthen government administration and allow the government to focus on national policies and development.
He explained that the arrangement reflected the MADANI Government’s willingness to work with different political groups for the benefit of the people.
The agreement was signed on Thursday between the MADANI Government, six Bersatu MPs led by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and seven other MPs, including Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
PH Says Cooperation Will Not Affect Melaka Election
Adam Adli said Pakatan Harapan (PH) had no issue with the possibility of facing Bersatu candidates in the Melaka election.
Both sides are expected to compete in four state constituencies: Ayer Keroh, Kelebang, Gadek and Pengkalan Batu.
He stressed that every party remained free to uphold its own principles and make independent political decisions.
He also called for political maturity, saying the interests of the people should come before party interests.
DAP Maintains Seven-Seat Allocation
At the same press conference, Melaka DAP chairman Khoo Poay Tiong confirmed that DAP would retain its allocation of seven state seats.
Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh announced retired Major Jaimi Dimon as the party’s candidate for Ayer Limau.
The announcement brings PKR’s total allocation to 10 seats.
Amanah also added two candidates to its list. Aminuddin Abdul Jalil will contest Sungai Rambai, while Junainah Sahat will contest Taboh Naning.
Following these additions, Pakatan Harapan will contest 24 seats in the Melaka state election on November 14.
The election will determine the representatives for all 28 seats in the Melaka State Legislative Assembly.
