KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 -- Malaysia and China will deepen cooperation to co-develop future industries, with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) serving as Malaysia’s first line of readiness for the future economy, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He said both countries must move beyond traditional trade, identifying electric mobility, battery technology, renewable energy, smart manufacturing, digital systems and talent development as key areas of collaboration. “Malaysia brings strategic geography, a growing industrial base and a young, trainable workforce. China brings technological depth, industrial scale and proven leadership in new energy industries. “Together, we can build more than bilateral success. We can strengthen regional value chains, support ASEAN’s industrial transformation and create a partnership that is not only good for Malaysia and China, but meaningful for the future of this region,” he said. Datuk Seri Dr. Zahid Hamidi Reaffirms UMNO’s Historic Mission at Johor Palace Steps

JOHOR BAHRU, May 12 — Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reaffirmed that UMNO must continue to serve as the “House of the Nation” in safeguarding the dignity of the Malays, Islam, and the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers as the party commemorates its historic 80th anniversary. In a symbolic gathering held at the historic staircase of the Johor Palace — the very site where UMNO was founded on May 11, 1946 — Zahid said the moment was not merely to relive history, but to strengthen the spirit of struggle that shaped the nation’s independence. “Back on the stairs of history, we remember the sacrifices and determination of past leaders who united to defend religion, race, homeland, and the sovereignty of the Malay Kings,” he said. According to Zahid, the same spirit that gave birth to UMNO eight decades ago must continue to guide the party through modern political challenges and national responsibilities. He said the return of UMNO leaders to the historic location symbolised a renewal of commitment to carry the trust of the people faithfully, courageously, and responsibly. Zahid also expressed his deepest appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim for consenting to the historic photography session, describing it as a meaningful moment for the entire UMNO family. Malaysian Bar Wins Bid To Challenge Prosecution’s Halt Of Zahid’s Case

PUTRAJAYA, May 7 -- The Court of Appeal today allowed the Malaysian Bar's bid to challenge the prosecution’s decision to halt all further proceedings against Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the Yayasan Akalbudi corruption case. A three-member bench comprising Justice Datuk Faizah Jamaludin, presiding with Justices Datuk Dr Lim Hock Leng and Datuk Nadzarin Wok Nordin, ruled that the Bar’s application was not frivolous and had raised arguable points of law that warranted a full hearing at the substantive stage. “This is an appropriate, rare and exceptional case that warrants a full judicial review. Leave is granted to the appellant to commence judicial review against the Attorney-General’s impugned decision. Thus, the High Court’s decision dated June 27, 2024, is set aside. “The matter is remitted to the High Court for the substantive hearing of the judicial review. There shall be no order as to costs,” Justice Faizah said in the unanimous decision. On June 27, 2024, the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed the Malaysian Bar’s application for leave to initiate judicial review proceedings, ruling that the application failed to meet the requisite threshold for judicial review. The Bar subsequently filed the present appeal.

Unity Government Leaders Agree to Maintain Cooperation in Negeri Sembilan

In a meeting held on 5 May 2026, the council reached a consensus to preserve the Unity Government framework in the state, emphasizing the importance of political stability and the well-being of the people. UMNO To Remain In Negeri Sembilan Unity Government – Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 -- UMNO has no intention of becoming the opposition in Negeri Sembilan and will continue supporting and remain as part of the state’s Unity Government, party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. He said the party’s national leadership has finalised the position of all 14 UMNO assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan to continue backing the existing state government. “We have no intention of becoming the opposition. UMNO at the national level has decided that all 14 assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan will remain part of the Unity Government,” he told reporters after the Kami Gen MARA Gathering here today. Ahmad Zahid said this in response to speculation over the party’s position in the state, adding that UMNO has not discussed any proposal to appoint a Menteri Besar from its ranks. On preparations for possible snap elections in Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor, he said all component parties have begun groundwork to ensure readiness, but it is still too early to identify potential candidates. Commenting on a proposal by economists to make Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) the core of a dedicated ministry for Bumiputera development, Ahmad Zahid said the idea has never been considered. “It has never been our intention, even if it is a proposal. MARA will remain, for now, as a key agency under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development,” he said. Khairy To Focus On Returning To UMNO, Still Early For Seat Discussion

KEPALA BATAS, April 11 -- Former UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's main focus at the moment is on his application to rejoin the party. Therefore, he described any discussion about the seat to be contested in the upcoming general election (GE) as too early. "I think it is too early for us to discuss where to contest (because) I am just in the process of returning, so the matter is not appropriate to discuss," he told reporters after attending the Aidilfitri Open House of Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican here tonight. After three years of being expelled from UMNO, Khairy submitted an appeal letter to return to UMNO on March 15. UMNO vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin previously said that the applications of several former UMNO leaders including Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy to rejoin the party would be discussed at the UMNO Supreme Council Meeting (MT) on April 17 based on the spirit of "Rumah Bangsa". Khairy said the determination of candidates and seat distribution by Barisan Nasional (BN) was under the jurisdiction of its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is also UMNO president, hence he did not want to preempt any party decisions. Meanwhile, he said that the wish of former Prime Minister the late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who is also a former Kepala Batas MP for the parliamentary seat to continue to be led by an individual he trusted, namely Reezal Merican who is now the chairman of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), should be respected. “During his lifetime, Pak Lah had advised both of us, me as his son-in-law and Reezal Merican as his political son, to let Reezal take care of Kepala Batas. “So, I will not disrespect his decision and wish. I hope that Reezal Merican will succeed in the GE and be able to reclaim the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat,” he said. In the 15th GE, Reezal Merican failed to defend his Kepala Batas parliamentary seat when he lost to Perikan Nasional (PN) candidate Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad with a majority of 2,867 votes.
