YB Yuneswaran Welcomes MADANI Government’s FELDA Commitment, Calls for Greater Focus on Future Generations

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — R. Yuneswaran has welcomed the MADANI Government's continued commitment to strengthening Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA), describing recent initiatives announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as a clear demonstration of the government's determination to restore confidence among more than 100,000 FELDA settler families nationwide. In a statement, Yuneswaran said the government inherited a FELDA burdened by significant financial challenges, including heavy debt, governance weaknesses and the impact of past decisions that affected the institution's financial position. He said instead of allowing those issues to persist, the MADANI Government had chosen to take responsibility by implementing the FELDA Recovery Plan, which allocates RM990 million annually from 2023 to meet FELDA's financial commitments. According to Yuneswaran, nearly RM3.96 billion has already been channelled under the plan, while the government's total commitment amounts to RM9.9 billion over a 10-year period. He noted that although the funds could have been used for other public infrastructure such as schools, hospitals and roads, the government prioritised ensuring FELDA's financial stability and protecting the welfare of settlers. However, Yuneswaran stressed that FELDA's transformation should go beyond resolving its financial obligations, urging the government to place greater emphasis on the needs of second- and third-generation settlers. He identified key challenges facing younger FELDA communities, including the shortage of affordable housing, limited access to residential land, insufficient quality employment opportunities and the need for greater exposure to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence (AI) and the digital economy. As the Member of Parliament for Segamat, Yuneswaran said the issue is particularly important because several FELDA settlements in the constituency have played a significant role in the district's economic development over the years. He proposed several measures, including accelerating housing projects for second-generation settlers, improving residential land ownership policies, attracting more investments and downstream industries into FELDA areas, expanding TVET and digital skills training, and strengthening infrastructure, internet connectivity and public amenities. Yuneswaran described FELDA as more than just a government agency, calling it a symbol of Malaysia's efforts to eradicate poverty, develop rural communities and build a strong Bumiputera middle class. He said the agenda to strengthen FELDA should transcend political differences and pledged to continue championing the interests of FELDA settlers to ensure the development of FELDA remains a national priority for the benefit of future generations and the country's continued progress. -- MINUTESMY

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 July — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said all initiatives undertaken for the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) community were driven by the government's commitment to listen to the concerns of settlers and provide solutions that bring real benefits to the people. PM Anwar To Officiate FELDA Settlers’ Day, 70th Anniversary Celebration

MARAN, July 7 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) Settlers’ Day and 70th anniversary celebration at Stadium Tun Abdul Razak, Jengka here today. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, is expected to deliver his address at 2.30 pm in recognition of the contributions and sacrifices of FELDA settlers, who have played a key role in the organisation’s development over the past seven decades since its establishment in 1956. The event will also be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. Anwar is also scheduled to present the 2025 FELDA Tokoh Peneroka and Penerokawati, Tokoh Generasi, Tokoh Belia and Beliawanis awards, as well as the Felda Scheme Excellence Award (AKRF).  The celebration commemorates FELDA’s seven decades as a land development and rural community institution that has transformed the socio-economic status of settler families nationwide. It also serves as a platform to honour the pioneer generation while showcasing FELDA’s achievements in economic transformation, digitalisation, technological innovation, environmental sustainability and community well-being. Parliament: PM Anwar insists he never blocked FELDA Settlers’ Day programme in Johor

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 -- Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the government has never prevented the implementation of programmes in Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) areas, including by state governments, as long as it does not involve the use of Federal Government machinery for election campaigning purposes. The Prime Minister said the state government was free to organise programmes in FELDA areas, but the use of government machinery, including that of the agency, for campaign purposes was not permitted according to election regulations. "There is absolutely no obstacle for a menteri besar to enter a FELDA area and hold his own program. "The state government wants to go and give land grants, it's their business even though they know about the election rules. It's not a ban, but using FELDA machinery to campaign is not allowed," he said during the Minister's Question Time session at the Dewan Rakyat today. In his explanation to a question from Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut), Anwar stressed that he never issued an order to cancel the FELDA Settlers' Day Programme which was scheduled to be held in Kluang, Johor, on June 20 and 21. Commenting further, the Prime Minister said the MADANI Government continues to pay attention to the welfare of FELDA residents through various initiatives to restore the areas affected by previous management. He said that among the efforts implemented included the provision of dialysis centres in FELDA areas as well as the distribution of various development facilities through Federal Government agencies. "Previously, many FELDA areas did not receive the attention they deserved because they seemed to be marginalized from rural development projects.
