UMT Upholds Integrity Of Public University Admissions System

KUALA NERUS, June 16 -- Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the transparency and integrity of the system and mechanisms governing student admissions to public universities. UMT Corporate Communications Office director Zukiferee Ibrahim said the university views seriously a statement by Jitra assemblyman Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, who alleged that places at public universities were being sold and that backdoor admissions were being offered to students who did not meet academic entry requirements. He said such allegations could create negative perceptions of the transparency of public higher education institutions (IPTAs) and erode public confidence in the integrity of the national education system. “The admission system for public universities in Malaysia is implemented through a transparent and orderly mechanism, and is subject to policies and regulations set by the relevant authorities. “Therefore, any statement that could mislead the public or cast doubt on the process should be examined based on credible facts and evidence,” he said in a statement today. Following the allegations, Zukiferee said UMT's management had lodged a police report against the Kedah state executive councillor to enable a professional, independent and comprehensive investigation to be carried out. He said that, as a public institution of higher learning, UMT would remain committed to upholding the integrity, transparency and credibility of the country's higher education system in the interests of students, society and national development. -- BERNAMA

Nation’s Progress Must Be Measured by Knowledge, Integrity and Values – PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today stressed that the true progress of a nation should not be measured solely by physical prosperity and infrastructure development, but also by the strength of knowledge, integrity, reason and values within society. Speaking at the Monthly Assembly of the Ministry of Communications, Anwar said a developed nation must be built upon a knowledgeable and morally grounded society that upholds justice, truth and mutual respect. He warned that societies with shallow knowledge and a lack of understanding of truth and justice are vulnerable to falling into ignorance, prejudice and misinformation. “A society that does not seek knowledge, uphold principles of justice or practise courtesy in thought and action can easily be trapped in a cycle of ignorance and illiteracy,” he said. The Prime Minister emphasised that in an era of rapid information sharing and evolving communication platforms, public discourse must be guided by wisdom, knowledge and good manners. He noted that while freedom of speech is an essential democratic principle, it must be exercised responsibly and accompanied by moral accountability. “Freedom of expression should be guided by ethical responsibility, while differences in opinion should never be used as an excuse to divide society or undermine the shared values of humanity that bind us together,” he said. Anwar also reminded civil servants and stakeholders that the nation’s development agenda extends beyond economic growth and technological advancement. According to him, Malaysia’s future success depends on its ability to cultivate a society that is knowledgeable, cultured, well-mannered and united in pursuing truth, justice and compassion. Deputy IGP Calls for Stronger Integrity to Uphold Excellence in Police Force

KUANTAN, June 5 -- Strengthening integrity remains a fundamental pillar that must be reinforced among all personnel of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to ensure excellence in service delivery, while effective supervision by senior officers must be aligned with established directives and actions. This was emphasised by Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay during a gathering and address with PDRM personnel from the Pahang contingent at Dewan Tun Razak here on Friday. Upon arrival, Tan Sri Ayob Khan was welcomed by Pahang Police Chief Dato’ Sri Yahaya Othman before attending a courtesy visit session and signing the visitors’ book. In his address, Tan Sri Ayob Khan urged all members of the police force to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity, integrity and a strong sense of accountability, while remaining steadfast in upholding religious values and high moral principles. He also reminded personnel to steer clear of all forms of corruption, misconduct and abuse of power in order to preserve public trust in the nation's police force.
