Datuk Seri Ramanan: KESUMA Continues Strengthening Welfare And Skills Development Of Gig Workers

SUNGAI BULOH, May 24 — Datuk Seri Ramanan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the welfare and skills development of gig workers through various initiatives under the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA),yesterday. He said the MADANI Government remains focused on building a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable gig economy ecosystem, particularly for e-hailing drivers and p-hailing riders who continue to play an important role in supporting the daily needs of the public. Speaking during the Grab Partner Appreciation Ceremony organised by Grab Holdings in collaboration with Central Mart Saujana Utama, Ramanan said the event brought together nearly 1,000 e-hailing drivers and p-hailing dispatch riders from the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency. He expressed appreciation to gig workers who continue to face various challenges including harsh weather conditions, traffic congestion and rising living costs while ensuring smooth delivery and transportation services for the community. “Without them, many of society’s daily needs would not arrive on time. Their contribution is significant and deserves recognition,” he said. Ramanan noted that programmes such as the appreciation ceremony also serve as an important platform for the government to listen directly to the concerns and aspirations of gig workers, particularly on issues involving cost of living, social protection and long-term economic security. Among the initiatives highlighted was the Economic Resilience Package (PACE), involving an allocation of RM20 million aimed at helping gig workers improve their financial resilience amid current economic pressures. He added that the government has also introduced the RM110 million MyMahir AI Programme to expand access to digital and artificial intelligence (AI) skills training, enabling gig workers to enhance their capabilities and increase future income opportunities. In addition, gig workers are encouraged to participate in technical training programmes at Advanced Technology Training Centres (ADTEC) under the Department of Human Resources (JTM), as well as explore broader career opportunities through the Social Security Organisation MYFutureJobs platform. During the event, Ramanan also presented contributions to several Grab partners as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication and service to the community. He stressed that KESUMA will continue ensuring that every initiative introduced translates into meaningful benefits for workers striving daily to earn a living. -- MINUTESMY -- SOURCE: FB: RAMANAN RAMAKRISHNAN

Anwar Tells Agencies To Reach Out To Small Traders On Aid, Financing

KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the relevant agencies to intensify ground efforts to provide explanations and assistance to small and medium traders who are still unaware of financing facilities and aid provided by the government. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the matter was important to ensure the group is not left out from benefiting from the various initiatives created specifically to help increase their income and expand their businesses. “There are some who are still unaware of the facilities available. So I ask the relevant agencies to go to the ground and provide explanations,” he told reporters after visiting the Taman Melawati Farmers’ Market here today. He said hawkers and small traders should continue to be given attention, as they number hundreds of thousands but still lack a strong platform to voice their views. Regarding his visit, Anwar said the feedback he received from hawkers and small traders was generally very positive, with most expressing gratitude for the opportunity to obtain micro-financing facilities provided by the government and its agencies. “I asked them myself. Most are already very grateful and thankful to the bodies and agencies that helped them, even for a RM10,000 loan,” said the Prime Minister. Anwar also said most of them were more focused on earning a living than complaining about the challenges they faced. He said among the issues raised by traders was the relatively high price of certain essential goods they purchased, but the problem could be eased through the role of agencies such as the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, which helps provide supplies at more affordable prices “I asked whether there were any problems, whether they could obtain loans and afford repayments. Alhamdulillah, the feedback received has been very encouraging,” he said. Previously, the MADANI Government announced more than RM5 billion in micro-financing facilities for 2026, expected to benefit more than 400,000 micro-entrepreneurs. The facilities involve loans of up to RM100,000, with financing rates for certain schemes as low as four per cent per annum. -- BERNAMA

KPKT Staff Urged To Upgrade Skills, Adopt New Technologies

PUTRAJAYA, May 21 -- Staff of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) have been urged to enhance their skills and master new technologies such as generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to improve the quality of public service delivery, making it more efficient, innovative and impactful for the people. Minister Nga Kor Ming said this is in line with the directive of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has emphasised the importance of digital transformation in the public service. “In this regard, the MADANI Government has launched AI at Work 2.0, which provides civil servants with access to Google Workspace with Gemini, equipping them with Gen AI capabilities. “By leveraging tools such as Gemini, government officers can generate reports, summarise documents, and analyse data more quickly and accurately,” he said at the KPKT appreciation reception here today. Nga said this would not only reduce manual workload but also enable civil servants to focus more on strategic tasks and effective solutions to public issues. He also stressed that KPKT personnel must think globally and adopt a forward-looking perspective, particularly in policymaking. “Today, the world is moving at a very fast pace. Every development at the international level, whether in trade, economy, technology or geopolitics, will have a direct impact on the country and the well-being of the people. “Therefore, we can no longer work within a narrow scope or remain too comfortable with routine approaches. Instead, we must understand local issues while being alert to global developments so that every policy and decision made remains relevant, progressive and able to enhance the country’s competitiveness,” Nga said. A total of 441 KPKT staff who demonstrated excellent performance were honoured at the ceremony, which was also attended by Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu. -- BERNAMA
