KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia's position as the seventh most trusted country in the world through the Edelman Trust Barometer 2026 proves that the country is on the right track in strengthening confidence in institutions, social stability and national unity. Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, said Malaysia's overall Trust Index increased from 66 points in 2025 to 71 points this year, thus placing the country among the best in the world in terms of the level of people's trust in the government, businesses, media and non-governmental institutions. He said the achievement reflected the confidence of the people and the international community in Malaysia's governance, economic direction and commitment to ensuring inclusive development. "This recognition is not just a number, but rather reflects the people's confidence in the country's institutions and leadership. It proves that Malaysia's efforts in strengthening governance, economic stability and social harmony are yielding positive results," he said in a statement today. Kor Ming said the MADANI Government will continue to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability and people-centred policies to ensure that public trust remains the foundation of the country's progress. "At a time when many countries are facing increasing polarization and uncertainty, Malaysia's position among the most trusted countries in the world demonstrates our strength in preserving unity in diversity. This achievement belongs to all Malaysians," he said. He said that although the report also highlighted challenges related to social division and the spread of false information, the findings should serve as a reminder to all parties to continue to foster understanding, inclusiveness and responsible public discourse in order to preserve the country's long-term harmony and prosperity. -- BERNAMA
