KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Steven Sim Chee Keong has praised Malaysian rapper Yogi B for elevating Malaysia's presence on the international music scene, describing the artist as a home-grown talent whose work has reached audiences around the world. Sharing his experience after visiting Yogi B's recording studio, Steven Sim said the veteran hip-hop artist has remained relevant since his days with Poetic Ammo, one of Malaysia's pioneering hip-hop groups in the 1990s. 12 Million Malaysians Registered For MyDigital ID As Of June 30 – Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 -- A total of 12 million Malaysians had registered for MyDigital ID as of June 30, with 16 million transactions involving registrations, renewals and cancellations of digital identities recorded. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government is continuing to expand the use of MyDigital ID as a single sign-on mechanism for online government services through an integration strategy implemented at both the federal and state levels. He said the Chief Secretary to the Government issued a directive on Jan 14, 2025, requiring all ministries, federal departments, statutory bodies, state secretaries and local authorities to implement the single sign-on system using MyDigital ID. "As of June 25, 2026, a total of 114 online government services have been integrated with MyDigital ID, including MyJPJ, MyPTPTN, SPA9 and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) MyBayar platform," he said in a written reply posted on the Parliament portal today. He was responding to a question from Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang), who sought the total number of MyDigital ID registrations as of May 31, 2026, and the measures taken by the government to ensure all online government platforms and service systems are accessible through MyDigital ID. Elaborating further, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said MyDigital ID has also been integrated with the MyGOV Malaysia platform developed by the National Digital Department (JDN), enabling users to access various government services through a single digital identity authentication mechanism. At the state government level, he said 19 online applications have so far been integrated with MyDigital ID, while another 28 applications remain under development. --BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — Malaysia and France have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral economic cooperation, with both countries exploring greater collaboration in strategic sectors including rare earths, semiconductors, aerospace, artificial intelligence (AI) and clean energy. The discussions took place during a courtesy meeting between Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Johari Abdul Ghani and France's Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, Nicolas Forissier, at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. Also present was French Ambassador to Malaysia Marc Abensour. In a statement, MITI said the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations in trade, investment and cooperation across strategic industries. Matta Urges Government to Include Licensed Tourism Transport Operators in BUDI Diesel Scheme

PETALING JAYA, July 8 — The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) has urged the government to reconsider the exclusion of licensed tourism transport operators from the BUDI Diesel subsidy programme, calling for a targeted assistance scheme to support the tourism industry. Matta president Nigel Wong said including licensed tourism transport operators in the initiative would help protect local businesses, safeguard jobs and strengthen Malaysia’s tourism sector. He called on the Finance Ministry to engage with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) and industry stakeholders to develop a regulated subsidy mechanism specifically for licensed tourism operators. Wong rejected the argument that diesel subsidies for tourism transport would mainly benefit foreign visitors, stressing that tourism vehicles serve both domestic and international travellers. “Licensed tourism transport operators provide services not only for inbound tourists but also for Malaysian holidaymakers, school groups, corporate events, incentive travel, religious pilgrimages, educational tours and community programmes,” he said in a statement. He warned that excluding the sector from the subsidy programme could increase operating costs, leading to higher fares and more expensive tour packages. Wong said rising costs could also push consumers towards unlicensed transport providers, potentially affecting safety standards and the sustainability of the tourism industry. He added that the move could impact domestic tourism growth and Malaysia’s competitiveness ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026, where the country is targeting stronger visitor arrivals and tourism spending. “Higher tourism activity creates a multiplier effect across the economy, benefiting hotels, restaurants, attractions, retailers, transport operators and local communities,” he said. Earlier, Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government’s diesel subsidy scheme would not be extended to the tourism sector as the industry was not among those eligible for subsidies funded through domestic revenue. He said the government’s focus for the tourism sector remained on improving infrastructure and strengthening facilities to attract more visitors.
