KUALA LUMPUR, September 18 2026, The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have been urged to investigate a performance video allegedly containing elements insulting the Malay Rulers, Malaysia and the Rukun Negara.
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said appropriate action should be taken if the investigation finds that any laws had been breached.
He said the probe should consider relevant legislation, including the Penal Code, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Sedition Act 1948.
Aaron stressed that freedom of expression comes with the responsibility to respect the law, national institutions and social harmony.
He said the Rukun Negara, proclaimed on Aug 31, 1970, serves as Malaysia’s national ideology and philosophy in fostering unity among Malaysians.
The video, uploaded on Instagram by The Fever Kinetic Theatre, recently went viral and drew attention over its alleged content involving the Malay Rulers, Malaysia and the Rukun Negara.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the performance was inappropriate and could affect harmony in Malaysia’s multiracial society.
He urged the organisers to issue a public apology and called on the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action.
