MELAKA, September 22 2026, The Melaka State Legislative Assembly will be dissolved tomorrow to pave the way for the 16th Melaka state election.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the decision today, saying it had received the consent of Melaka Governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam. He said the dissolution would mark the end of the 15th state assembly’s term, with the election process to proceed according to the law and the Election Commission’s decisions.
State Assembly Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum has submitted the dissolution notice to the Election Commission. The current assembly was originally due to complete its term on Dec 27.
The previous Melaka election was held on Nov 20, 2021, with Barisan Nasional winning 21 of the 28 seats, while Pakatan Harapan secured five and Perikatan Nasional two.
