KUALA LUMPUR, September 22, 2026 – Eight minors aged between 13 and 18 were among 53 individuals arrested nationwide for allegedly possessing and selling child sexual abuse material, police said today.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar said the arrests were made under Operation Pedo 3.0, a joint operation involving the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) following months of investigations.
The minors are being investigated for allegedly possessing and selling animated child sexual abuse material generated using artificial intelligence (AI), which Kumar described as a worrying trend.
He said two civil servants were also among those arrested, including a teacher.
Kumar said 53 of 92 individuals identified as targets were arrested during the nationwide operation, warning that the misuse of AI in producing such material poses serious implications and a threat to children.
