US President Donald Trump discussing a possible meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Trump Says Putin-Zelenskyy Meeting Could Be Arranged Soon

WASHINGTON, October 28, 2026 — US President Donald Trump says a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could be arranged soon.

Trump said progress had been made towards addressing the Russia-Ukraine war. However, he did not confirm a date, location or format for the proposed meeting.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One after returning from campaign events in Texas, Trump said he had discussed the conflicts involving Russia, Ukraine and Iran with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff.

No Date Set for Putin-Zelenskyy Meeting

Trump named Putin and Zelenskyy as the leaders expected to attend the proposed meeting. However, he provided no further details about the arrangements.

Russia and Ukraine last held US-mediated peace talks earlier in 2026. Those discussions included three rounds of negotiations in Abu Dhabi and Geneva during January and February.

If the proposed meeting takes place, it would be the first direct meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Trump Also Comments on Iran Conflict

Trump also spoke about the conflict involving the United States and Iran.

He claimed that Tehran wanted to reach an agreement with Washington but was delaying negotiations. He suggested that discussions could continue beyond the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3.

However, Trump did not confirm whether the United States would launch further attacks against Iran after the election.

When asked about the possibility, he said that several outcomes remained possible but declined to provide further details.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue

The proposed Putin-Zelenskyy meeting comes as efforts continue to address the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the conflict involving the United States and Iran remains another major foreign policy challenge for Washington.

Although Trump has expressed optimism about progress, the timing and outcome of the proposed meeting remain uncertain.
