MELAKA, Oct 31 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Mohd Yunazri Mustamiri is aiming for an upset in the Tanjung Bidara state seat.
He will challenge incumbent Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh in the state election on Nov 14.
Yunazri, 36, is contesting in an election for the first time. However, he remains confident of giving his opponent a strong challenge.
He admitted that the contest would be difficult. Still, he believes his campaign can make a difference.
“On paper, our chances may seem rather slim, but it is not impossible for us,” he said.
Party Support Strengthens Yunazri’s Confidence
Yunazri is the Masjid Tanah PKR pro-tem secretary.
He said support from party leaders had strengthened his confidence. He also acknowledged the backing of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
PH announced Yunazri as its candidate at the nomination centre in Alor Gajah on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Ab Rauf is seeking to defend the seat. He won Tanjung Bidara in the 2021 Melaka state election with a majority of 364 votes in a three-cornered contest.
Youth Development Among Yunazri’s Priorities
Yunazri believes his age could help him connect with younger voters.
If elected, he plans to focus on youth development. He also wants to bring federal-level policies and programmes to the constituency.
In addition, he proposed strengthening initiatives under the Digital Village framework.
He said local youths should also receive up to 30 per cent of opportunities to participate in local authority projects.
Melaka State Election Set for November 14
The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day for the 16th Melaka state election.
Early voting is scheduled for Nov 10.
Yunazri is making his electoral debut in Tanjung Bidara. He faces Ab Rauf, who currently represents the constituency and serves as Melaka Chief Minister.
