PUTRAJAYA, JULY 9 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today held a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Perdana Putra Complex, focusing on efforts to strengthen Malaysia-Thailand relations and expand cooperation in key areas.
Anutin arrived in Malaysia today for a two-day official visit at Anwar’s invitation. He was welcomed by Anwar at the Bunga Raya Complex before both leaders proceeded to Putrajaya for the meeting.
The discussions covered a wide range of areas including trade and investment, border connectivity, security cooperation, agriculture, tourism, education and people-to-people relations.
Both leaders were also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest, particularly within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) framework and other regional platforms.
Several Malaysian Cabinet members attended the meeting, including Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Fadillah Yusof; Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan; Transport Minister Anthony Loke; Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu; Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail; Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Johari Abdul Ghani; Human Resources Minister Ramanan Ramakrishnan and Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
The Thai delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Eknit Nitithanprapas, as well as other senior ministers overseeing tourism, defence, agriculture and labour portfolios.
Following the bilateral talks, Anwar and Anutin are scheduled to witness the signing and exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation, highlighting the commitment of both countries to enhance collaboration in the sector.
The Malaysian Prime Minister will later host an official luncheon in honour of Anutin and the Thai delegation as part of the official visit programme.
