KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 – The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning involving several areas in the northern region, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds expected until 3pm today.
The affected areas include Perlis, Kedah, and parts of Perak, specifically Larut, Matang and Selama as well as Hulu Perak.
The warning, issued at 12 noon on Wednesday (July 15, 2026), stated that thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds are expected to occur in the affected areas.
MetMalaysia explained that a thunderstorm warning is issued when signs indicate that thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour are either occurring or expected to occur for more than an hour.
The department also reminded the public that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert and is valid for a period of not more than six hours from the time of issuance.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious, especially those involved in outdoor activities, and to take necessary safety precautions during periods of heavy rain, lightning and strong winds.
