PORT DICKSON, July 15 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Melaka DAP to postpone its decision to withdraw from the Melaka state government, emphasising that development and the welfare of the people should remain the top priority.
Anwar, who is also the chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH), said he had held discussions with DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh to seek the best possible solution to the issue.
He said differences of opinion among coalition partners are normal in any political alliance, but they should not undermine the government’s efforts to drive economic growth and improve the well-being of the people.
“Even if there are issues we disagree on, we must continue moving forward together on policies that benefit the people and the nation,” he said after officiating the Midport Smart Container Terminal project in Port Dickson on Wednesday.
Earlier, Melaka DAP announced its decision to withdraw from the state government following the Melaka State Legislative Assembly’s approval of constitutional amendments allowing for the appointment of nominated state assembly members.
DAP said the amendments were inconsistent with democratic principles and were a key reason behind the party’s decision to leave the state administration.
