PUTRAJAYA, June 15 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced that the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (TERAJU) will be placed under an agency within the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) as part of efforts to streamline and strengthen the implementation of Bumiputera development initiatives, particularly those under the PuTERA35 framework. Anwar said the decision was agreed upon during the second meeting of the Bumiputera Economic Council (MEB) for 2026, which he chaired earlier today. He explained that the move is a continuation of the government’s institutional reform agenda aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Bumiputera economic development programmes. The initiative follows the recent consolidation of Bumiputera-focused investment entities, including Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB) and Ekuiti Nasional Berhad (Ekuinas), under the Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputra (YPB). “Centralising the monitoring and coordination of Bumiputera development programmes will ensure greater efficiency and effectiveness in implementing the aspirations outlined under PuTERA35,” he said in a statement. The Prime Minister revealed that the overall implementation of PuTERA35 has now exceeded 64.6 per cent, with 160 of the 493 planned programmes successfully carried out to date. “This achievement reflects the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to ensuring that the Bumiputera development agenda delivers tangible outcomes and meaningful benefits to the people,” he added. During the meeting, members were also informed that Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs) and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) spent RM49.2 billion over the past year through procurement activities involving Bumiputera vendors and suppliers. In addition, GLICs have increased their investment commitment in Bumiputera businesses to RM2 billion in 2026, up from RM1.3 billion previously. The investments include support through the Bumiputera Transformation Run initiative, which aims to expand access to financing and investment opportunities for Bumiputera entrepreneurs at various stages of business growth. Anwar also announced that Khazanah Nasional Berhad will launch the Dana Ciptawan initiative with an allocation of RM200 million to support mid-tier Bumiputera companies, enabling them to strengthen their competitiveness, scale up operations and expand into broader markets. Meanwhile, the meeting reviewed resolutions from the Bumiputera Education Congress 2026 held on May 1. Anwar said several strategic proposals arising from the congress would undergo further study, including the proposed establishment of a National Tahfiz Council (Majlis Tahfiz Negara). He noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance education and human capital development among Bumiputeras in a more comprehensive and effective manner. “The government remains committed to ensuring that Bumiputera empowerment efforts continue to evolve in line with current challenges and future opportunities, while fostering inclusive and sustainable national development,” he said. -- MINUTESMY -- SOURCE: FB ANWAR IBRAHIM

Kuala Lumpur Mayor, Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud said that parties wishing to do so must submit a Letter of Intent to the City Planning Department (JPRB), DBKL before 5pm, July 10. He said the letter must contain justification for the proposed changes, a clear location plan or site plan and the latest land title documents for the site referred to. "The implementation of changes to gazetted local plans is a dynamic step taking into account the need for current policy coordination as well as international economic challenges in the context of ongoing urban development and planning. "This determination also aims to focus on a comprehensive planning mechanism to enable the review of land use zones, development intensity and development control parameters to be implemented systematically as provided for under the Federal Territories (Planning) Act 1982 [Act 267]," he said in a statement today. Fadlun said that PTKL2040, gazetted on May 28, 2025 and coming into effect on June 11, is a statutory document that translates the strategic direction of the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (PSKL2040) into urban spatial planning. He said that changes to local plans are subject to Section 17(1) of Act 267 which allows the Mayor at any time to propose amendments, revisions, repeals or replacements of all or part of a gazetted local plan. He said that the applicants involved will be informed of the need to appoint a Registered Town Planner to prepare a Local Plan Change Proposal Report (LCPPT) according to the scope of the application submitted. He said that the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan Proposed Change Report Manual can be accessed through the Kuala Lumpur Development Plan portal starting today. Meanwhile, Fadlun said, DBKL has also introduced new Kuala Lumpur Redevelopment Implementation Incentive Guidelines to replace and improve existing regulations regarding urban redevelopment incentives. "These improvements are being implemented in line with current development trends and urban planning policies in Kuala Lumpur to ensure that the implementation of redevelopment can be carried out in a more orderly, clear and comprehensive manner and is easily understood by all stakeholders," he said. He said the new guidelines will be adopted and come into effect from today and can be accessed via DBKL's official website , www.dbkl.gov.my. -- BERNAMA

KOTA BHARU: Police have recorded four cases of cable theft from the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in Kelantan this year, involving losses of approximately RM50,000. Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the activity was believed to have been orchestrated by a local syndicate who took advantage of the time when the electrical system on the ECRL line was not yet fully operational. He said two local men aged between 20s and 30s were arrested last month and are believed to be involved in all the incidents. "They are believed to have been active since last February. Each incident involved the theft of cables and other equipment containing copper," he said. Mohd Yusoff said this at a press conference after the monthly assembly at the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters level for June 2026, here today. He said most of the incidents occurred in Pasir Puteh as the district has the longest ECRL line in Kelantan which is connected to the route from Terengganu. KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on Malaysians to remain vigilant and take early precautionary measures following forecasts that the El Niño phenomenon is expected to influence the country's weather patterns in the coming months and potentially continue into early 2027. In a statement today, Zahid, who also serves as Chairman of the Central Disaster Management Committee, said he had taken note of the latest advisory issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) regarding the anticipated impact of El Niño. According to MET Malaysia, the phenomenon is expected to bring hotter and drier weather conditions than usual during the Southwest Monsoon season, resulting in reduced rainfall in several areas across the country. Zahid warned that the prolonged dry spell could increase the risk of water shortages, forest and peatland fires, as well as haze episodes. “I would like to advise all Malaysians to remain prepared and stay informed about current weather developments. The public should use water wisely, avoid open burning activities and prioritise the health and well-being of their families, especially those who are more vulnerable to hot weather conditions,” he said. He also encouraged the public to obtain the latest weather updates through the myCuaca mobile application and official MET Malaysia communication channels. Zahid stressed that early preparedness and responsible action from all parties are crucial in mitigating risks and ensuring public safety during the anticipated weather changes. “Insya-Allah, the Government will continue to closely monitor developments and take the necessary measures to ensure that the safety and welfare of the people remain a top priority,” he added.

ISKANDAR PUTERI, JUNE 15 -- Integrity and trust must continue to be the mainstays in every level of the security forces to ensure that the people's trust in enforcement institutions continues to be maintained, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. He said that the strength of an organisation does not only depend on physical facilities, buildings or sophisticated assets, but rather, it is determined by the level of integrity and honesty of its members. He said that an organization can have complete experience, skills and assets, but without integrity, all of it is worthless. "If integrity collapses, no matter how great the facilities are, the people's trust will be lost. If we lose property, we lose nothing. If we lose health, we lose something, but if we lose character, we lose everything. "That is the importance of integrity and moral values in life," he said when speaking at the opening ceremony of the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters (IPD) here today. Also present was Johor Police Chief, Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad. Ayob Khan said that the trust carried by each team member must always be safeguarded and cannot be compromised. He said there was no tolerance for abuse of power, corruption or any form of disciplinary violation that could affect the team's image and the public's trust. "Never use rank as protection from legal action. Anyone who betrays the people's trust must face appropriate action regardless of position or rank," he said. In the same development, he said that today's security challenges are increasingly complex as authorities are no longer only facing conventional crime, but rather new threats such as cybercrime, online fraud syndicates, cross-border smuggling and transnational crime. In this regard, he said, the police force needs to continue to strengthen its operational and investigative capabilities through a more proactive, rapid and data-based approach to ensure public safety continues to be maintained. -- BERNAMA
