ISTANBUL, October 29, 2026 — Iran is continuing diplomatic efforts with mediators to explore a seven-day plan aimed at addressing tensions with the United States, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.
Araghchi said Tehran remains in contact with intermediaries to review proposals that could allow the plan to be implemented in less than a week.
In a statement on social media platform X, he said Iran was giving diplomacy an opportunity to succeed while keeping its armed forces prepared to defend the country.
Iran Proposes Steps to Ease Tensions
Iran presented the seven-day proposal to Washington through Qatari mediators in September.
Under the plan, the United States would take several steps during the first five days. These include ending hostilities, lifting its naval blockade on Iranian ports, easing restrictions on Iranian oil exports and releasing frozen Iranian assets.
If an agreement is reached, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz to normal commercial shipping on the sixth day.
Negotiations between Tehran and Washington would then resume on the seventh day, with the aim of reaching a broader agreement.
However, the proposed timeline and measures still depend on both sides reaching an agreement.
Mediators Continue Diplomatic Efforts
Araghchi said Tehran was reviewing Washington’s response to the proposal earlier in October. Messages between the two sides have continued through mediators.
Oman, Pakistan and Qatar have maintained diplomatic contacts to help resolve disagreements between Iran and the United States.
The diplomatic efforts follow months of military conflict and are aimed at maintaining a fragile ceasefire between the two countries.
Both sides would need to agree on the proposed measures before the seven-day plan could move forward.
