JOHOR BAHRU: Barisan Nasional (BN) will focus on delivering its agenda and policies to the people without making attacks on opponents a campaign approach in the Johor State Election (PRN), said BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said the party machinery at all levels had been reminded of the matter.
“We are not taking an approach to attack anyone or any political party. I have told the party machinery at the national level, Johor and other states that will face elections to take a different approach.
“We want to address the people’s issues and offer a better agenda for them. As much as possible, we will not attack any party. If attacked, we will respond, but not to attack any party,” he said.
He said this to reporters after attending the Haul Asmaulhusna 2026 Commemoration Ceremony at the Sultan Iskandar Mosque, Bandar Dato’ Onn here today.
Also present were Johor BN Chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
In a related development, Ahmad Zahid said the list of BN candidates for the Johor state election is currently in the final stages of being finalized and is expected to be announced about a week before nomination day.
The Election Commission (EC) has set July 11 as polling day for the 16th Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) General Election, while June 27 as nomination day and early voting on July 7.
