KUALA LUMPUR, October 28, 2026 — The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) is distributing 22,000 essential goods packages to Indian families in need across Malaysia ahead of Deepavali.
The aid aims to ease household expenses and help families prepare for the Festival of Lights.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan Ramakrishnan launched the distribution convoy on October 28 through the MADANI Food Basket Contribution Programme.
Five agencies support the initiative
Five agencies under KESUMA are helping deliver the aid. They are Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
The agencies are working together to ensure the packages reach families who need assistance.
Aid aims to ease festive expenses
Ramanan said some families may struggle to afford basic necessities while preparing for Deepavali.
He said the aid aims to reduce this burden. It also hopes to give parents greater peace of mind and allow children to enjoy the festive season.
Deepavali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness. It also highlights hope, love and care for others.
Ramanan said the programme reflects the MADANI principle of ihsan, which emphasises compassion and concern for people in need.
KESUMA pledges continued community support
The minister said KESUMA would continue to help people improve their living standards.
Its efforts include creating job opportunities, providing skills training and helping people increase their income.
He added that the ministry aims to stay close to communities and respond to their needs.
Through the Deepavali aid programme, KESUMA hopes to provide practical support while promoting compassion and unity among Malaysians.
