KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim yesterday expressed Malaysia’s appreciation to Iran for facilitating the passage of Malaysian oil tankers through the strategic Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties in West Asia.
The matter was conveyed during a meeting with the Ambassador of Iran to Malaysia, Valiollah Mohammadi, held on the sidelines of the Kuala Lumpur–Ankara Dialogue earlier yesterday.
Anwar noted that the decision by Iran comes at a critical time, as tensions in the region continue to impact global energy markets and supply chains.
“In the current climate of uncertainty following the West Asia crisis, Malaysia highly values Iran’s decision to allow our oil vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
He added that the move plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuity of the nation’s energy supply, while also helping to ease pressure on the cost of living and supporting overall economic stability.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Malaysia remains committed to strengthening diplomatic ties and cooperation with international partners to safeguard national interests, particularly in times of global uncertainty.
