PUTRAJAYA, Oct 29 – Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain will return to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) after his secondment to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) ends, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says.
Saifuddin confirmed that the decision was made last week. He said PDRM would decide Mohd Shuhaily’s next assignment.
“We have decided to return him to the police force,” Saifuddin told reporters after the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly on Thursday.
Police Officer Expected to Lead AKPS
Saifuddin also indicated that a police officer would fill the position of AKPS director-general following Mohd Shuhaily’s return to PDRM.
However, he did not announce who would take over the role.
The Home Ministry said arrangements concerning Mohd Shuhaily’s service were still being finalised. It added that the process would follow the relevant rules and procedures.
The ministry also stressed that maintaining smooth operations at AKPS remained a priority.
Mohd Shuhaily’s Appointment at AKPS
Mohd Shuhaily began his two-year term as AKPS director-general on July 1, 2025. His appointment was originally scheduled to run until June 30, 2027.
Before joining AKPS, he served as director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.
The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail, had said the matter was being reviewed. It was referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Police Force Commission for further action.
Court Case Remains Separate
On Oct 21, Mohd Shuhaily pleaded not guilty at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court to two charges of causing injury to two police personnel at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Sept 28.
The charges remain a separate legal matter. The return-to-PDRM decision concerns his service placement.
