KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) on its 80th anniversary, recognising the broadcaster’s longstanding role as the voice of the people and a pillar of national identity.
In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted RTM’s enduring contribution in delivering information to the rakyat, describing the institution as the “heartbeat of the nation” that has shaped public discourse for decades.
He noted that in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape—marked by global uncertainties and the swift advancement of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI)—RTM’s responsibility has become even more critical. Ensuring that accurate, balanced, and credible information reaches the public, he said, must remain a top priority without compromising values and public trust.
Anwar Ibrahim also called on RTM to continue leading the industry by empowering local talent, nurturing the creative arts, and embracing technology in an ethical and responsible manner.
He stressed that such efforts are essential for RTM to remain relevant and authoritative, while continuing to serve as a key platform for nation-building in Malaysia.
The Prime Minister’s message reflects the Government’s appreciation of RTM’s legacy and its continued importance in navigating the challenges of a modern and dynamic information environment.
