MetMalaysia Issues Thunderstorm Warning for Several States Until 4pm

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and federal territories, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to continue until 4pm on Friday.

In a weather advisory issued at 12.30pm, MetMalaysia said the warning covers the states of Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan, as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The warning also includes parts of Perak involving Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak, as well as Bera in Pahang.

In Selangor, the affected areas are Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

Meanwhile, in Johor, thunderstorms are forecast to affect Tangkak, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.

For Sabah, the warning covers the Interior districts of Tenom, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan, as well as parts of the West Coast division.

MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, or when such conditions are expected to persist for more than one hour.

The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories and are valid for a period of no more than six hours from the time they are issued.

Members of the public are advised to remain alert, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during severe weather, and follow the latest updates and instructions issued by the authorities.
