Iran-Oman Talks On Strait Of Hormuz Progressing Positively – Baqaei

August 5 2026 – Iran and Oman are continuing discussions on establishing safe shipping arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.

Baghaei said the talks are progressing positively at both the technical and political levels between the two countries.

“The discussions, held between the two coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz, are aimed at establishing safe shipping routes while safeguarding the sovereign rights and security interests of both Iran and Oman,” he said on Tuesday.

He added that Tehran is working closely with Muscat to develop the necessary mechanisms for future shipping arrangements.

Baghaei said the outcome of the negotiations would be announced once the discussions are concluded.

He also stressed that the talks are strictly a bilateral process between Iran and Oman and do not involve the United States, despite claims by some US officials suggesting Washington has a role in developments concerning the strategic waterway.
