MELAKA, Oct 30 – MCA will contest an additional seat in the upcoming Melaka state election after Kota Laksamana was returned to Barisan Nasional (BN) by Perikatan Nasional (PN).
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong announced that Melvin Chua would represent BN as its candidate for the Kota Laksamana state constituency.
He said the decision followed discussions between BN and PN after PN indicated that MCA was better suited to contest the seat.
Wee made the announcement during a press conference at the Bandar Hilir MCA operations room in Melaka Raya on Friday.
MCA to Contest Four Seats in Melaka
With Kota Laksamana added to its list, MCA will now contest four seats in the state election.
The other three constituencies are Machap Jaya, Kelebang and Bandar Hilir.
Wee said Melvin was selected because of his involvement in local community activities and his service within the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) administrative area.
He added that Melvin was familiar to residents and had built connections through his community work.
MCA Says It Is Ready for Election Challenges
Wee said the late decision to add Kota Laksamana would not disrupt the party’s election preparations.
He explained that MCA had already prepared its election machinery, particularly in the constituencies it had traditionally contested.
As a BN component party, MCA was also prepared to take on additional responsibilities where needed.
Wee said the party would continue working to gain public support, including in constituencies considered challenging.
Melaka Polling Date Set for Nov 14
The Election Commission (EC) has scheduled Oct 31 as nomination day for the Melaka state election.
Early voting will take place on Nov 10, while polling day is set for Nov 14.
