Buntong Assemblywoman Urges Swift Action Over Alleged Insult to Religious Symbol

KUALA LUMPUR — Buntong assemblywoman Thulsi Manogaran has called on authorities to act swiftly and fairly following a viral incident involving the alleged desecration of a Hindu religious symbol.

In a statement issued today, the Perak leader from Democratic Action Party (DAP) said incidents touching on religious sensitivities must be addressed promptly to maintain harmony in Malaysia’s diverse society.

She noted that the public expects clear and timely action whenever matters involving religion and race arise, particularly in the age of social media where such issues can quickly escalate.

Thulsi urged the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to take a proactive approach in investigating such cases and to ensure that the law is applied fairly and consistently.

She also welcomed earlier calls by the Ministry of National Unity for firm legal action regardless of race, adding that consistent enforcement is key to maintaining public confidence and trust among communities.

At the same time, she encouraged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take necessary steps to limit the spread of provocative or hateful content online.

Thulsi also appealed to Malaysians to remain calm and responsible when encountering sensitive material on social media.

“Members of the public should refrain from sharing or amplifying provocative videos or posts. Instead, they should report such content to the relevant authorities so that appropriate action can be taken,” she said.

She added that mutual respect and understanding among communities remain essential pillars of Malaysia’s peace and unity.
