KUALA LUMPUR, September 25 2026, Two commercial vehicle drivers tested positive for methamphetamine during an integrated drug operation conducted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) at the Duta Toll Plaza on Sept 22 and 23.
Kuala Lumpur JPJ director Hamidi Adam said the two drivers were among 48 individuals who underwent urine tests conducted in collaboration with the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
He said both were detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for further testing and investigation.
If confirmed as drug-dependent through the legal process, JPJ may take action under Section 36 of the Road Transport Act 1987, including suspending their driving licences.
During the two-day operation, JPJ inspected 275 commercial vehicles and issued 62 notices for various offences, including failure to possess a Goods Driving Licence (GDL) and violations involving tinted windows.
Hamidi said 25 of 341 drivers tested in integrated drug operations nationwide up to September had failed initial urine screenings.
He stressed that JPJ would not compromise with drivers operating vehicles under the influence of prohibited substances, while reminding transport operators to ensure proper driver monitoring and vehicle maintenance.
