DUNGUN: An elderly female trader faced a moment of anxiety when her retail shop in Ketengah Jaya, here, was robbed by three armed men in an incident at 1.45 pm yesterday.
Dungun District Police Chief, Superintendent Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat said the 70-year-old victim was doing business alone at the time, before being approached by three men armed with a machete and an iron bar.
He said the suspect is believed to have tied the victim’s hands and covered his mouth with adhesive tape, before taking several of the victim’s valuables.
“Among the items stolen were jewellery worn by the victim, cash, two mobile phones and personal documents, with an estimated loss of tens of thousands of ringgit.”
“However, the victim did not suffer any injuries in the incident,” he said in a statement today.
Nik Ab Halim said the police are now actively tracking down the three suspects who are believed to have fled in a grey Proton Iswara car.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, for committing armed robbery.
“The public with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Dungun District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation,” he said.
