PUTRAJAYA, 8 June 2026 – Malaysia today reaffirmed its commitment to global energy stability and strategic cooperation at the 41st OPEC and Non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting (ONOMM), as oil-producing nations continue to navigate geopolitical uncertainty, supply risks and a changing global energy landscape. The Malaysian delegation was led by the Minister of Economy, YB Tn Haji Akmal Nasrullah Haji Mohd Nasir, who participated virtually in the meeting convened by the OPEC Secretariat in Vienna, Austria, on Sunday, 7 June 2026 at 3.00 p.m. Vienna time, corresponding to 9.00 p.m. Malaysia time. The hybrid ministerial meeting brought together OPEC and non-OPEC participating countries to deliberate on key matters affecting global oil market stability and long-term supply security. A key focus of the meeting was the assessment of Maximum Sustainable Capacity (MSC) among participating countries. Malaysia views the MSC framework as an important mechanism to strengthen market transparency, improve production baseline assessments and support more predictable supply planning in the years ahead. Malaysia also reaffirmed its continued alignment with the Charter of Cooperation (CoC), which builds on the Declaration of Cooperation (DoC) established in 2016. While the DoC provided an effective platform for coordinated market stabilisation, the CoC offers a broader and more structured framework for long-term cooperation, including on technology, emissions reduction and the global energy transition. As a committed partner within the OPEC+ framework, Malaysia remains supportive of collective efforts to promote market stability and energy security. As both an oil producer and a net energy importer, Malaysia views market stability as essential not only for global confidence, but also for domestic production, investment planning and long-term energy security. Moving forward, Malaysia will continue to work closely with member countries to deepen cooperation in energy, trade and investment. Malaysia also remains committed to complying with its assigned production target for 2026, while continuing constructive engagement to ensure that any future baseline revisions under the MSC framework remains fair, realistic and reflective of participating countries' production outlook beyond 2026. Also present at the meeting were YBhg. Datuk Seri Nor Azmie Diron, Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy; YBrs. Puan Marina Md Taib, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy, PETRONAS; and senior officials from the Ministry of Economy and the Embassy of Malaysia in Austria. -- MINUTESMY -- MINISTRY OF ECONOMY

PUTRAJAYA, June 8 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised the Communications Ministry's effectiveness in communicating the implementation of BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95), describing it as one of the best examples of government communication in explaining policies to the people. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the clear and effective explanation of the initiative had helped improve public understanding and reduce confusion over the implementation of BUDI95. "I believe this ministry's greatest success is in relation to BUDI95. When a clearer explanation is provided, it does not create many problems. "Once again, I congratulate our colleagues, Fahmi (Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil), the KSU (Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah) and the entire Communications Ministry workforce for their dedication in conveying information effectively to the people," he said. KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today stressed that the true progress of a nation should not be measured solely by physical prosperity and infrastructure development, but also by the strength of knowledge, integrity, reason and values within society. Speaking at the Monthly Assembly of the Ministry of Communications, Anwar said a developed nation must be built upon a knowledgeable and morally grounded society that upholds justice, truth and mutual respect. He warned that societies with shallow knowledge and a lack of understanding of truth and justice are vulnerable to falling into ignorance, prejudice and misinformation. “A society that does not seek knowledge, uphold principles of justice or practise courtesy in thought and action can easily be trapped in a cycle of ignorance and illiteracy,” he said. The Prime Minister emphasised that in an era of rapid information sharing and evolving communication platforms, public discourse must be guided by wisdom, knowledge and good manners. He noted that while freedom of speech is an essential democratic principle, it must be exercised responsibly and accompanied by moral accountability. “Freedom of expression should be guided by ethical responsibility, while differences in opinion should never be used as an excuse to divide society or undermine the shared values of humanity that bind us together,” he said. Anwar also reminded civil servants and stakeholders that the nation’s development agenda extends beyond economic growth and technological advancement. According to him, Malaysia’s future success depends on its ability to cultivate a society that is knowledgeable, cultured, well-mannered and united in pursuing truth, justice and compassion. He called on all parties to work collectively towards strengthening social cohesion and fostering a culture that values intellectual growth, integrity and mutual respect as the country moves forward. -- MINUTESMY -- SOURCE: FB ANWAR IBRAHIM

ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 8 -- For mothers who are heavily pregnant or bringing young children for health check-ups, comfort when seeking treatment at health clinics is not a luxury, but a necessity. As such, the relocation of the Maternal and Child Unit of the Gelang Patah Health Clinic (KKGP) to the Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters (SILC) here, under the Johor state government’s decanting (reorganisation) initiative, has been well received by patients, who now enjoy a more comfortable and orderly environment. S. Geetha, 33, who is three months pregnant, said one of the main challenges she previously faced when seeking treatment at the old location in Taman Nusa Perintis was the difficulty in finding parking due to the high volume of patients. The housewife, who is expecting her second child, said the situation forced expectant mothers to park by the roadside before walking and crossing the road to reach the clinic. “Now it’s much easier because the parking area is larger and the location is more comfortable for patients to seek treatment,” she told Bernama. For housewife Fatanah Izzati Mohd Hamdan, 30, who gave birth to her first child last month, the most noticeable changes are the more spacious waiting area and a service layout that is more patient-friendly. She said congestion at the previous facility sometimes made movement uncomfortable, especially for pregnant women and those carrying babies. “Previously, it felt like we were bumping into each other because it was so crowded. If we needed to go to the lab, we had to walk outside, but now everything is in one building,” she said. Wong Yoke Lin, 64, also praised the state government’s initiative in ensuring better healthcare services for women and children. “This is my first time at this clinic. In my view, the initiative is good as it benefits the public as a whole,” said the mother of two. A Bernama survey found that operations at the health clinic are running smoothly, with a more conducive and comfortable interior space, and a better location in a non-traffic-congested area. Earlier, it was reported that State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the KKGP in Taman Nusa Perintis often faced congestion issues, handling about 800 patients daily within a limited space. Ling and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had visited the health clinic to assess the situation and proposed relocating the clinic’s Maternal and Child Unit to SILC to holistically address congestion issues and enhance service quality. The new facility, which has been operating since Dec 8 last year, offers child healthcare services, antenatal and postnatal care, as well as women’s health services. The improved facilities, larger space, conducive environment and more systematic access to services not only help reduce patient congestion but also enhance the quality of healthcare for the Gelang Patah community. -- BERNAMA

PASIR PUTEH: The victims who survived the tragic bus crash involving students from the Sultan Idris University of Education (UPSI) in Gerik, Perak on June 9 last year are recovering from the trauma thanks to the continuous support from various parties. UPSI Bachelor of Arts Education student Abdul Wafiy Kamaruddin, 24, said the ongoing counselling provided by the university has greatly helped the victims involved in the tragedy. "At first, I felt scared when I wanted to get on a vehicle, but Alhamdulillah, things are gradually improving and now I have no problem getting on buses or public transport." "UPSI counselling also always follows up with those of us involved in the accident and the assistance has greatly helped the emotional recovery process," he told reporters after the UPSI Tautan Kasih and Ukhuwah Ceremony with the Heirs of the Gerik Incident 2025 in Tok Bali here yesterday. Abdul Wafiy said he, who only suffered minor injuries and was placed in the Green Zone of Gerik Hospital after the incident, still remembers the initial moments after the accident, including seeing many victims lying face down. "I was sitting in the back seat on the right. When I regained consciousness after the accident, I saw many people injured and wanted to help them, but my condition did not allow it. I was only able to help the victims nearby. The shadow of the incident haunted me for two to three months before I gradually recovered," he said. He said family support was the main factor that strengthened his spirit to rise, in addition to the help of friends and the university, with most of the survivors also showing positive developments after receiving various supports. "So far, the 27 survivors are stable and recovering emotionally. This situation proves the important role of family, friends and educational institutions in helping victims move on with their lives after facing tragedy," he said. Recalling the tragedy, Abdul Wafiy said June 9, 2025 would remain a dark moment in his life when a bus carrying UPSI students overturned, killing 15 would-be educators. He said that before the incident, the atmosphere was very cheerful because all the students were on their way back to campus after Aidiladha. "That night we laughed and had fun together. But in the blink of an eye, tragedy claimed 15 lives and changed the lives of many of us forever," he said. Apart from continuing his recovery process, Abdul Wafiy also shared his experiences and views on road safety on various platforms, including as an invited panelist at the Road Safety Congress in November last year. In the early morning of June 9, 2025, 15 UPSI students died when a chartered bus carrying them from Jertih to the main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak overturned after hitting a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle. -- BERNAMA

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detected irregularities involving the government initiative, the Daya Kerjaya 2.0 programme, which was implemented previously, with a value of false claims totalling RM9.01 million. MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said that through investigations, his office identified 143 companies involving 320 employees nationwide involved in the embezzlement of government funds handled by the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) starting in 2024. "Through the Daya Kerjaya 2.0 program, the government provides incentives to employers in the form of salary payments of RM1,500 per month to employees (groups such as the disabled, ex-convicts and senior citizens) who are appointed, for six months. "However, based on the initial intelligence conducted by our party, it was found that several issues had been detected in terms of implementation and so on. Among them, we found that there was an individual who was declared as an employee but in fact he did not exist," he told Bernama in conjunction with his visit to the Terengganu MACC Office, here, today. Abd Halim said his department also detected that there were workers who did not meet the minimum six-month employment requirement but received full payment and that there was activity of using false documents to obtain the incentive payment. Apart from that, he said, his party has also detected 1,638 other companies that carried out similar activities involving a value of approximately RM45 million, but it is still in the early stages of investigation. He said that MACC had received good cooperation from Socso headquarters throughout the investigation and would continue to seek assistance from the agency at the state level to further streamline operations, including the process of collecting information and evidence. Abd Halim said his party views seriously any elements of corruption or weaknesses in the management of government funds initiated to help the people. In this regard, he said, MACC, through the Governance Investigation Division, will intensify efforts to assist government departments or agencies as well as companies to improve governance or tighten procedures to prevent leakage or misappropriation of government funds. "If there are weaknesses in the system or procedure, we will help identify and suggest improvements to ensure that the implementation of an initiative can be delivered to the people more effectively and accurately. "The case related to Daya Kerjaya 2.0 is among the examples of irregularities detected involving government incentives that were created with good intentions to help the people and stimulate job opportunities, but were misused by a few irresponsible parties," he said. In another development, Abd Halim said MACC intends to establish Anti-Corruption Cadets at the secondary school level to foster awareness and instill a culture of integrity and hatred of corruption among the younger generation. To begin with, he said, his party plans to start the project in one or two schools around Putrajaya or Kuala Lumpur with the involvement of between 30 and 40 students. "We will of course discuss our wishes with the Malaysian Ministry of Education first. "Then we will see whether the ministry agrees or not, in addition to examining the constraints that exist and the expenses that need to be incurred such as buying uniforms and so on," he said. -- BERNAMA
