KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — The United Indigenous Party of Malaysia (BERSATU) expressed its sadness following the decision of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) to cease political cooperation and sever ties with the party. BERSATU President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the decision was made at the request of PAS, even though the cooperation previously built was founded on noble spirit and understanding. According to him, as one of the founding parties of the Perikatan Nasional (PN), BERSATU will continue to remain in the coalition and strengthen its core struggle for the interests of the people. "BERSATU will continue to strengthen the people's concern agenda brought by Perikatan Nasional since its establishment, in addition to supporting the wishes of the people who want change and leadership that represents the aspirations of all Malaysians," he said in a statement today. Muhyiddin also called on all party leaders and members to focus on efforts to strengthen Perikatan Nasional and continue to place the interests of the people as the main focus of the struggle. He said that the current tests should be a catalyst for all party members to work more diligently and enthusiastically. "I am confident that the people who support the ideals of the National Alliance will continue to stand steadfastly with us," he said. KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — The PAS Supporters' Assembly (DHPP) expresses its full respect and support for the PAS leadership's decision regarding the direction of the party's political cooperation as announced by the PAS President. DHPP Central Information Chief, Dr. Balachandran Gopal Krishnan said that in the political world, not all forms of cooperation can be maintained forever because every political relationship needs to be assessed based on compatibility of goals, direction of struggle and the ability to bring greater benefits to the people and the country. According to him, PAS has shown courage in making decisions that may be difficult and unpopular, but are considered necessary to ensure that the party's struggle continues to move forward clearly and consistently. "Sometimes, long-term stability requires difficult decisions to be made today," he said in a statement on Tuesday. He stressed that PAS remains committed to efforts to create unity, political stability and an administration with integrity, with these principles continuing to be a guide in determining any form of political cooperation in the future. KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 -- PAS yesterday announced its decision to end its political cooperation with Bersatu following a special meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee. In a statement issued by PAS President, Abdul Hadi Awang, the party said the decision was made after reviewing the current status and future direction of PAS–Bersatu political cooperation based on reports, studies and current assessments. The Central Working Committee also endorsed the decision made by the PAS Syura Council on June 2 regarding policy, religious and public interest considerations concerning PAS’ political cooperation, guided by the principle of Muslim unity (penyatuan ummah). Despite ending its formal political cooperation with Bersatu, PAS said it would explore a new form of political understanding and electoral pact aimed at strengthening Muslim unity ahead of upcoming state elections and the 16th General Election (GE16). The meeting also welcomed the interest shown by academics, professionals, political leaders and community activists who have expressed their intention to join PAS. The announcement was made following a special meeting of the PAS Central Working Committee held on Monday. PUTRAJAYA, June 8, 2026 — Malaysia’s Election Commission (EC) will convene a special meeting on June 12 to determine key dates and preparations for the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election following the dissolution of the 15th Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly on June 5. In a media statement issued today, the EC announced that the special meeting will be held concurrently with a similar meeting concerning the 16th Johor State Election. The meeting will be chaired by EC Chairman, Ramlan Harun, and will discuss important election-related matters, including the issuance of the election writ, nomination day, polling day, the electoral roll to be used, and other logistical preparations required for the conduct of the state election. The EC said the meeting forms part of its preparations to ensure the smooth implementation of the electoral process in Negeri Sembilan. JOHOR BAHRU, June 8, 2026 – Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman and Johor Menteri Besar, Onn Hafiz Ghazi, has firmly stated that DAP has never been part of the BN-led Johor state government and will not be included in the administration as long as the people of Johor continue to give BN the mandate to govern the state. According to Onn Hafiz, the stance is not rooted in arrogance or racial considerations, but rather in principles, the mandate entrusted by the people, and BN Johor’s responsibility to safeguard the interests of Bangsa Johor. “This is not about arrogance. Nor is it about race. It is about principles, mandate, and responsibility to Bangsa Johor,” he said in a statement. As the chairman of BN Johor, Onn Hafiz said he is committed to serving all communities in the state and has a duty to respect the aspirations of grassroots members at every level who want the coalition to contest the 2026 Johor State Election independently. He also stressed that the political situation at the federal level should not be equated with the circumstances in Johor. According to him, the cooperation between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the federal level was formed following the 15th General Election (GE15) upon the decree of the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong, after no political coalition secured a clear majority to form the federal government. “The federal government and the Johor state government are two different entities. At the federal level, BN cooperated with PH after GE15 following the decree of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong when no coalition had sufficient numbers to form a government,” he explained. BATU PAHAT, June 7 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim yesterday has called on Johor voters to reject divisive politics and support leadership that prioritises unity, integrity and economic development ahead of the upcoming Johor state election. Speaking at the launch of the Pakatan Harapan Johor Election Machinery in Batu Pahat on Saturday night, Anwar expressed confidence in the coalition's prospects after thousands of supporters turned up despite the event being rescheduled at short notice. He said the overwhelming attendance reflected the aspirations of Johoreans for a more mature and cleaner political landscape, as well as a brighter future for the state. "Johor is a state rich in potential and opportunities. Through the continuous efforts of the MADANI Government, investments are flowing into the state and strategic projects are progressing rapidly.
