BATU PAHAT, June 6 -– The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Annual Congress, originally scheduled to take place from June 26 to 28, 2026, has been postponed to August 14 to 16, 2026. PKR Information Chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the decision was made during the monthly meeting of the party’s Political Bureau and Central Leadership Council (MPP) held in Batu Pahat, Johor, on Saturday. He said the venue for the congress will remain unchanged at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, Melaka. “The postponement is intended to provide PKR Johor and Negeri Sembilan with additional time to strengthen their preparedness ahead of the upcoming state elections,” he said in a statement. Fahmi also announced that the Political Bureau had appointed Senator Datuk Seri Panglima Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa as PKR Vice Presidents. KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 -- A special meeting on the 16th Johor State Election will be held on June 12, the Election Commission (EC) said. EC Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the commission had received a notice from Johor State Assembly Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi on the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly on June 2, as provided under Article 23(2) of Part Two of the Laws of the Constitution of Johor 1895. “Article 23(4) of Part Two of the Laws of the Constitution of Johor 1895 provides that an election is to be conducted within 60 days from the date of the dissolution of the State Assembly. “The special meeting, to be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, will discuss key dates for the 16th Johor state election, including the writ of election, nomination day, polling day, the electoral roll to be used, and other preparations for the election,” he said in a statement today. He added that a press conference would be held immediately after the special meeting. The Johor State Assembly was dissolved on June 1 following the consent of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail. In a separate statement, Khairul Shahril said applications for postal voting, both within and outside the country, for the 16th Johor state election are now open online at https://myspr.spr.gov.my starting today. It covers postal voting applications for all categories, namely Category 1A (police personnel, military personnel, election officials, EC members/ officers, and media personnel), Category 1B (Malaysian citizens living abroad), and Category 1C (agencies and organisations). “All postal voting applications must be made online. Eligible voters who wish to vote by post must register or have a MySPR account before submitting their application,” he said. KUALA LUMPUR: The dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) is seen as the best step to enable the people to determine a new government with a clear mandate and strong support to govern the state. Political columnist and analyst Dr Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani Ahmad Sabri said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun's decision to request the dissolution of the state assembly was probably made because the Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman believed that the state government needed to have comprehensive support to ensure that the administration could run smoothly. He said if a government feels it no longer has sufficient mandate, it is better for the mandate to be returned to the people to make decisions. "He (Aminuddin) felt it was necessary for the government to run smoothly to administer the state in good conditions and since he felt he did not receive a comprehensive mandate, it was better for the state assembly to be dissolved and the mandate given back to the people." "The people can determine the better party to form a new government, one that receives a new mandate and strong support from the State Assemblymen (ADUNs), so that the existing government is more solid and strong," he told Bernama TV on Friday. The Negeri Sembilan State Assembly, which has 36 seats, was officially dissolved today to make way for the 16th State Election (PRN). Aminuddin announced this at a special press conference at his official residence last night, after receiving the approval of the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, thus ending speculation over the dissolution of the state assembly over the past few weeks. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani said that even though an institution is still functioning, the situation should not continue if the government does not receive solid support from the assemblymen. Commenting on the role of the state government after the dissolution of the state assembly, he said the interim government had limited powers and could only continue matters that had been approved previously. He said the caretaker government cannot present a new budget or increase allocations to any party during that period, but instead only carry out existing administrative affairs until a new government is formed after the election. In the 15th general election, the PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition succeeded in forming the government in Negeri Sembilan when it controlled 31 out of 36 state seats, with PH and BN winning 17 and 14 seats respectively, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won five seats. -- BERNAMA

ALOR GAJAH: Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh hinted that the State Election (PRN) will only be held after the Johor and Negeri Sembilan PRNs are completed. He said the situation in Johor and Negeri Sembilan was different from that in Melaka, which did not require the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to be dissolved in the near future. The Melaka State Legislative Assembly term expires on Dec 30. "We (Barisan Nasional) will continue to carry out government affairs to look after the people's affairs until a date to be officially announced." "We are not participating in either Johor or Negeri Sembilan and we will send machinery to assist in the state elections in both states," he said when met by reporters at a thanksgiving ceremony in conjunction with his return from performing the hajj at his residence in Kampung Pulau here, tonight. Ab Rauf said he would also examine the results of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections before thinking of a suitable date to dissolve the state assembly. The Chief Minister stressed that he was not pressured by any party urging Melaka to also dissolve the state assembly, as happened in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. However, he did not rule out any possibility regarding the future of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly, describing politics as "an art with 1,001 possibilities". The Melaka state election held in 2021 saw Barisan Nasional (BN) form the state government after winning 21 seats, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) won five seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) won two seats. KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — Negeri Sembilan’s deepening constitutional and royal crisis entered a dramatic new phase today as the state legislative assembly was dissolved, a disputed proclamation of a new Yang di-Pertuan Besar proceeded amid controversy, and the High Court issued injunctions aimed at preserving the status quo within the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) as reported by SCOOP portal. The developments came after Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun confirmed late Thursday that Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir had consented to the dissolution of the 36-seat Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly, triggering snap state elections. The dissolution followed the withdrawal of support by 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen, who cited dissatisfaction with Aminuddin’s handling of the ongoing royal succession dispute. Tensions escalated further at the official residence of the Tunku Besar Tampin, where a special DKU meeting had been scheduled. Police officers were reportedly seen locking the residence gates, preventing several adat leaders and dignitaries from entering the compound. Despite the legal and constitutional controversy, Tunku Nadzaruddin was reportedly proclaimed as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar following the special DKU sitting, signalling what supporters described as the beginning of a new reign under Negeri Sembilan’s Adat Perpatih system. However, the legitimacy of the proclamation remains fiercely disputed. Constitutional experts have maintained that attempts by the Undangs to remove Tuanku Muhriz do not satisfy constitutional requirements, arguing that he remains the lawful ruler of Negeri Sembilan. Adding another layer of complexity, the High Court today granted temporary injunctions preventing the convening of DKU meetings and blocking efforts to remove the body’s secretary, Raja Norazli Raja Nordin. Judicial Commissioner Roz Mawar Rozain issued the orders after Raja Norazli and the DKU sought court intervention to preserve the administration of the institution pending further legal proceedings. The injunctions prohibit the plaintiffs from convening DKU meetings, including any special sittings, interfering with Raja Norazli’s duties, establishing committees to assume his powers, or making administrative decisions affecting the DKU. The orders remain in force until the court determines jurisdictional and preliminary issues or issues further directions. The court also barred attempts to remove Raja Norazli, conduct DKU affairs, or issue statements on behalf of the institution. Raja Norazli had earlier rejected his purported suspension by several ruling chiefs, insisting that only the Yang di-Pertuan Besar possesses the authority to remove him from office. Meanwhile, reports surfaced that Tunku Nadzaruddin was prevented from attending an official ceremony at the Tunku Besar Tampin’s residence after allegedly being blocked from leaving a hotel in Melaka. Former Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Rais Yatim criticised the alleged restrictions, saying Tunku Nadzaruddin had intended to travel to the ceremony but was prevented from doing so. “He was at the hotel and wanted to come here, but he was prevented. Every individual has personal rights under the law. He should not be forced or subjected to restrictions, as that could constitute false imprisonment,” Rais told reporters outside the residence. Rais further questioned the legal basis for the alleged confinement, stating that authorities had not explained why Tunku Nadzaruddin was prevented from attending the event. Separately, Jelebu Undang Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad was reportedly angered after being denied access to meet Tunku Nadzaruddin at the hotel. He was later seen entering the hotel lobby accompanied by Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad. Police had not issued an official statement on the allegations at the time of publication. With the assembly dissolved, Negeri Sembilan is now preparing for snap elections. Pakatan Harapan component parties PKR, DAP and Amanah have announced plans to contest all 36 state seats, while DAP has postponed its national conference to focus on campaigning efforts in Negeri Sembilan and Johor. The unfolding crisis has thrust Negeri Sembilan’s unique constitutional monarchy into the national spotlight. KUALA LUMPUR, June 5, 2026 — The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of Democratic Action Party (DAP) has postponed its 2026 National Congress to focus on the upcoming state elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. In a statement issued after its monthly meeting on Thursday night, DAP Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook announced that the party's National Congress, originally scheduled for July 12, will now be held on August 16, following the dissolution of the state legislative assemblies in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. DAP confirmed it will defend all seats currently held by the party in both states and is seeking to contest additional constituencies in Johor, subject to final negotiations with fellow partners in Pakatan Harapan. The party also announced the formation of a five-member candidate selection committee comprising Loke, Gobind Singh Deo, Nga Kor Ming, Teo Nie Ching and Chong Chieng Jen. SEREMBAN, June 5 -- The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, which has 36 seats, will be officially dissolved tomorrow to pave the way for the upcoming State Election (PRN) yesterday. The announcement was made by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun during a special press conference at his official residence here last night, bringing an end to weeks of speculation surrounding the timing of the assembly's dissolution. Aminuddin said the dissolution was carried out after obtaining the consent of the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, during an audience at Istana Besar Seri Menanti earlier today. Aminuddin said the official notice of the State Legislative Assembly's dissolution will be submitted to the Election Commission (EC) soon for the electoral body to determine key dates for the upcoming State Election (PRN). JOHOR BAHRU, June 4 — Johor DAP has cautioned against a return to single-party political dominance, arguing that long-term stability is better achieved through power-sharing, checks and balances, and cooperation among different political parties. In a statement today, Johor DAP Vice Chairman and Pakatan Harapan Johor Communications Director Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said recent remarks by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, expressing Barisan Nasional’s (BN) intention to contest all 56 Johor state seats, have raised questions about the possibility of restoring a political landscape dominated by a single party. According to Sheikh Umar, while BN’s ambition reflects its confidence and desire to form a strong and stable state government, excessive political dominance could lead to an imbalance of power and weaken democratic oversight. “Political stability does not necessarily require absolute control by one party. Stability can also be achieved through cooperation, shared responsibility and unity among parties representing different backgrounds and interests,” he said. He pointed to Malaysia’s political experience before 2018, when BN’s dominance was so entrenched that many Malaysians viewed a change of government through elections as nearly impossible. “This created a culture of political fear, where voters were often led to believe that a change in government would result in instability,” he said. Sheikh Umar said developments since the 2018 general election had demonstrated the importance of healthy political competition, effective checks and balances, and public confidence in democratic transitions of power. He also cited concerns over the recent appointment of five nominated assemblypersons ahead of the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly. While acknowledging that the appointments were lawful, he questioned whether they were necessary given the government’s existing strong majority, adding that the move had created perceptions that differing views were not adequately considered. He further noted that the decision to hold a separate Johor state election instead of aligning it with the next general election had sparked debate, particularly amid economic uncertainties linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. According to Sheikh Umar, some observers believe a standalone state election could impose additional costs on both the government and taxpayers. He said Johor and Malaysia have benefited from the current power-sharing approach at the federal level, citing development initiatives such as data centre investments, the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project, the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), and various socio-economic assistance programmes. “The political landscape has changed significantly since GE14. The idea that only one party can provide a stable and effective government is no longer the only model available,” he said.
