KLUANG: UMNO is ready to accept any former Bersatu members or leaders who have been subject to disciplinary action to join the party's struggle, under the Rumah Bangsa idea, said UMNO Vice President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. He, who is also the Chairman of the National Home Unification Committee, said that as a party that is a "home" for the Malays, UMNO is always open to accepting anyone who wants to join the party. "We are open to accepting anyone, because our house is 'Rumah Bangsa', meaning the house is big enough for anyone," he told reporters after officiating the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) MADANI Economy programme at Batu 3 Camp, here, today. He said this when asked to comment on the decision of the Bersatu Disciplinary Board to dismiss and suspend the membership of elected representatives and party leaders. Yesterday, the Bersatu Disciplinary Board dismissed and suspended the membership of four more elected representatives and party leaders for violating Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu Constitution and the Members' Code of Ethics and Conduct. On Friday, the party also took disciplinary action against six of its leaders, including expelling two State Assemblymen (ADUNs) and suspending the membership of four other party leaders with immediate effect. Rumah Bangsa is an UMNO reunification initiative introduced by its President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to unite the Malays and welcome former members back to the party, with more than 10,000 applications received so far. -- BERNAMA

JOHOR BAHRU, May 12 — Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reaffirmed that UMNO must continue to serve as the “House of the Nation” in safeguarding the dignity of the Malays, Islam, and the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers as the party commemorates its historic 80th anniversary. In a symbolic gathering held at the historic staircase of the Johor Palace — the very site where UMNO was founded on May 11, 1946 — Zahid said the moment was not merely to relive history, but to strengthen the spirit of struggle that shaped the nation’s independence. “Back on the stairs of history, we remember the sacrifices and determination of past leaders who united to defend religion, race, homeland, and the sovereignty of the Malay Kings,” he said. According to Zahid, the same spirit that gave birth to UMNO eight decades ago must continue to guide the party through modern political challenges and national responsibilities. He said the return of UMNO leaders to the historic location symbolised a renewal of commitment to carry the trust of the people faithfully, courageously, and responsibly. Zahid also expressed his deepest appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim for consenting to the historic photography session, describing it as a meaningful moment for the entire UMNO family. He further extended gratitude to Tunku Ismail Idris, the Regent of Johor, for his support and presence during the commemorative event. “History reminds us that the strength of a nation is born from unity among the people, loyalty to the institution of the Malay Rulers, and sincerity in serving religion, race, and country,” he added. The UMNO president stressed that the party will continue to uphold its founding principles and remain steadfast in defending the interests of the nation and ensuring stability for future generations. “Then, now, and forever — UMNO will continue to be the House of the Nation,” he said. -- MINUTESMY -- SOURCE: FB ZAHID HAMIDI

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has stressed that UMNO will continue to remain the main platform for the Malay struggle as the party marks its 80th anniversary today. According to him, May 11, 1946, was a historic date that marked the birth of a major movement for the Malay community, one that has endured through changing times in defending religion, race and the homeland. He also expressed appreciation to UMNO members nationwide who have remained loyal to the party’s struggle despite the various political challenges, internal divisions and changing political landscape faced throughout its eight decades of existence. KUALA LUMPUR: Ba'kelalan state assemblyman (ADUN) Baru Bian has filed an application to strike out the suit filed against him by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), which is seeking RM10 million in damages over alleged breach of bond conditions when he quit the party after winning the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018. The notice of application was filed through Messrs. YH Teh & Quek on April 6 on the grounds that the High Court of Malaya in Peninsular Malaysia did not have jurisdiction to hear the case because the cause of action arose in Sarawak. The court set May 20 for case management before High Court Judge Roslan Mat Nor. In the application, Baru Bian, who is also the former Member of Parliament for Selangau, said he signed the bond in Kuching on April 25, 2018 and his involvement with PKR was only focused on Sarawak. "The plaintiff's (PKR) actions against me, even if proven true, do not arise in Peninsular Malaysia. The claim arises in Sarawak," he said in the application. Baru Bian is among 16 former MPs and assemblymen who were sued by PKR Secretary-General Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh on behalf of PKR for allegedly violating the terms of a RM10 million bond signed with the party. Also named as defendants are Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar, Datuk Mansor Othman, Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah and Datuk Seri R. Santhara Kumar. Apart from that, Abdul Yunus Jamhari, Datuk Azman Nasrudin, Dr Afif Bahardin, Chong Fat Full, Daroyah Alwi, Haniza Mohamed Talha, Muhammad Hilman Idham, Muhammad Jailani Khamis, Robert Ling Kui Ee and Zulkifli Ibrahim were also named as defendants. In separate suits filed on Feb 19 and 27, PKR claimed that under the operative clause of the bond, each defendant agreed to pay the party RM10 million within seven days of the occurrence of any event including the defendant resigning from the party, joining another political party or becoming an independent elected representative. The plaintiff claimed to have nominated each defendant as a candidate to contest in the 14th GE and successfully won several Parliamentary and State Assembly seats, subsequently forming the Federal Government and several state governments. "However, on 24 Feb 2020, each of the defendants ceased to be party members after being elected under the party banner. They also expressed support for political coalitions other than PKR," PKR said in the statement of claim. PKR announced on March 11, 2020 that the party decided to terminate the membership of each defendant immediately and a certificate dated March 16, 2020 was issued to confirm that the membership of each defendant had been terminated and demanded that each defendant pay a bond of RM10 million, but they failed to do so.

ISKANDAR PUTERI, May 7 -- Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has dismissed rumours that the Johor State Legislative Assembly would be dissolved today. He said that, for now, matters relating to the state election should be set aside, and all state assemblymen should continue serving the people across the state. “I would like to announce that the Johor State Legislative Assembly will not be dissolved today, so everyone can relax. I advise Honourable Members not to worry about the state election. “Continue serving the people and Bangsa Johor. Let us put aside election matters for now as there are still many programmes and initiatives that need to be implemented,” he said during the winding-up session of the Johor state assembly sitting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail here today. Onn Hafiz said he needed to clarify the matter following widespread speculation that the state election could take place soon, possibly due to the rising political temperature. “I noticed some differences during this assembly debate session, perhaps because the political temperature is rising. Some said this might be the last state assembly sitting before the state election, while others were apologising and shaking hands,” he said. Lately, talk of the dissolution of the Johor state assembly has intensified as several politicians in the state have begun making statements regarding the state election, while some parties have also started identifying their target seats.

SEREMBAN: The Unity Government will continue to focus on three main thrusts, namely maintaining political stability, driving economic prosperity and safeguarding the welfare of the people, said Pakatan Harapan (PH) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He said this principle is also the basis of unification in the Unity Government and has been proven in its implementation over the past three years. "This government was formed based on mutual trust and respect. These two political values, trust and respect, are why I am impressed with Tok Min (Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun) who managed to maintain his victory in Negeri Sembilan and govern successfully," he said when speaking at the PH Main Leadership Inaugural Lecture here last night. Also present were Aminuddin, who is also the Negeri Sembilan PH chairman, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke. Saifuddin Nasution said he also has confidence in the continuity of the current leadership, with the current term remaining for less than two years. "We place strong confidence in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, we want him to continue for the remaining term and if asked what PH's direction is, we want to strive to govern for a second term and Anwar to lead as Prime Minister for a second term." "Our direction is very clear and that must start with Negeri Sembilan, we continue to build strength and Tok Min will continue to lead with excellence," he said. At the same time, Saifuddin Nasution said priority would continue to be given to the welfare of the people and the continuity of economic policies in facing current global challenges. "...the world is currently facing a crisis, whatever their target, the situation is causing us to face an energy crisis...we meet every week in the Economic Action Council, there is no other way. We promise the people, we will defend the people's welfare and economic stability," he said. Meanwhile, Loke stressed the importance of political consensus between parties in the government as the main basis to ensure that the stability of state and federal administration is maintained. Commenting on the recent political situation in Negeri Sembilan, he said there were several important lessons for leaders, including the need to remain calm and act rationally in the face of crises. Anthony, who is also the Chennah State Assemblyman (ADUN), assured that all 17 PH assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan would remain united and support the existing leadership to continue the mandate to the people. "We want the state to be stable so that the country is also stable. This is important to ensure that the administration of the Federal Government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar can continue," he said, urging all elected representatives and party machinery to continue to focus on their respective duties, especially in resolving the people's issues and ensuring that the administration runs smoothly. Meanwhile, Aminuddin said his party would continue to provide commitment in ensuring that the state government's development and economy were on a stable, structured and continuous path for the well-being of the people. He said that despite the political crisis in the state, the state government's priority was to ensure that the welfare of the people was always maintained, including paying attention to aspects of education, economic stability and efforts to attract more investment. "We want this state to continue to progress, we want this state to continue to run well, we want the children who are studying to continue to be taken care of... the state government needs to take proactive steps to ensure the economy continues to grow and the people are not burdened, in fact today there are companies coming to invest in this state. "Today we don't want to talk about politics, politics, politics. We want to talk about how we can win the hearts of the people by reducing their burdens. This is what we must do. This is what the young people must ensure is peace, prosperity so that we can continue to move forward better," he said. -- BERNAMA
