Malaysia is using artificial intelligence (AI) to help detect issues that could threaten racial harmony.
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the government works with several agencies to identify sensitive issues involving religion, race and royalty (3R).
The aim is to detect problems early. This allows the authorities to take action before tensions grow.
AI Monitors Social Media
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) uses AI to study public opinion and social media trends.
For example, the system monitors platforms such as TikTok, X, Threads and Instagram.
It also helps identify deepfake videos, fake audio and altered images. These forms of digital content can spread false information. As a result, they may increase racial tensions.
Aaron shared the information during Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.
He was answering a question from Batu Gajah MP Dr V. Sivakumar. The question concerned the use of AI to protect racial harmony and promote national unity online.
Government Uses Digital Monitoring Systems
The government also uses several digital systems to identify sensitive issues.
These include PRISMA, RAKAN, a unity analytics dashboard and the eSepakat platform.
According to Aaron, these tools help officials detect hate speech and racially sensitive content.
In addition, real-time monitoring helps agencies assess problems more quickly. Therefore, officials can respond when new concerns arise.
MCMC Removes 8,540 Online Posts
The government can also use existing laws to address unlawful online content.
These include Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Online Safety Act 2025.
Aaron said the MCMC removed 8,540 posts linked to religion, race and royalty issues between 2022 and April 2026.
The commission worked with social media platforms to remove the posts.
AI Supports National Unity Efforts
The government aims to use AI to identify harmful content before it causes wider problems.
At the same time, cooperation between agencies helps authorities respond to sensitive issues.
These efforts support the government’s work to protect racial harmony and strengthen national unity.
