GEORGE TOWN, September 22 2026, Cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in Penang should be further strengthened to ensure political stability, effective administration and the well-being of the people, said State Rural Development, Agrotechnology and Food Security Committee chairman Datuk Rashidi Zinol.
Rashidi, who is also the Nibong Tebal UMNO division chief, said cooperation between the two coalitions at both the federal and state levels had been positive and constructive.
He said his three years serving as a Penang State Executive Council member had been marked by good working relations with leaders and colleagues from PKR and DAP.
According to Rashidi, mutual respect, understanding, communication and a shared commitment to serving the people had helped strengthen the relationship.
He said differences in political backgrounds should not hinder cooperation when the priority was to ensure effective state administration and deliver benefits to the people.
Rashidi also described the political understanding established in Penang following the 2023 state election as a partnership that should be maintained and further strengthened.
He welcomed Penang PH’s decision to retain a BN representative in the state administration until the next general election, saying it reflected the importance of continued cooperation.
Rashidi also supported maintaining and strengthening the Unity Government at the federal level until the end of its term to ensure political stability, policy continuity and continued development efforts.
In the 2023 Penang state election, PH and BN formed the Unity Government after winning 29 of the 40 seats contested.
