Rare Earths, Healthcare and Tourism Among Key Issues in Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 – Several national issues are set to take centre stage in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Members of Parliament will raise questions on Malaysia’s rare earth industry, healthcare funding and the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

They will also seek updates on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) scanners at cargo terminals.

MPs to Seek Updates on Rare Earth Industry

Datuk Ahmad Saad @ Yahaya, the MP for Pokok Sena, will ask the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister about the country’s rare earth element (REE) policy.

He wants an update on the policy framework. He will also seek details on plans to develop industries that process rare earth materials into higher-value products.

Questions on Obesity and Diabetes Treatment

Meanwhile, Ramkarpal Singh, the MP for Bukit Gelugor, will raise questions about government-funded treatment for obesity and diabetes.

He will ask the Health Minister how many patients have received GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) treatment under Budget 2026.

He also wants details on the funds allocated to healthcare facilities.

In addition, he will ask whether the treatment programme has helped reduce obesity and diabetes cases.

AI Scanners at Cargo Terminals Under Scrutiny

Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, the Independent MP for Kuala Kangsar, will focus on AI-powered cargo scanners.

He will ask the Transport Minister how well the scanners can detect smuggled dangerous goods.

He will also seek details on safeguards for cargo clearance. These measures should ensure that AI decisions are not the only basis for approving cargo.

Parliament to Review Visit Malaysia 2026 Progress

Another issue concerns the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

Manndzri Nasib, the MP for Tenggara, will ask the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister for the latest campaign results.

He wants figures on foreign tourist arrivals and revenue generated for the country.

He will also seek an assessment of Malaysia’s international tourism promotion efforts.

MPs will debate the Supply Bill 2027 at the Committee Stage. Ministers will also respond to issues raised during the proceedings.

According to the parliamentary calendar, the Committee Stage debate begins on November 2 and is scheduled to continue until November 26.
