PUTRAJAYA, 5 MAY -- Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has extended his support to young Malaysian musicians by contributing RM100,000 to the Alam Shah Wind Orchestra (ASWO) yesterday, as they prepare to compete in the prestigious World Music Contest 2026 in Kerkrade, Netherlands. During a recent visit to Sultan Alam Shah School following an event with NRES, Anwar took time to assess the school’s infrastructure and meet with members of the ASWO team. The orchestra, made up of 46 students from Forms 2 to 4, is set to represent Malaysia on the international stage on July 30. In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized that the students’ achievement reflects the nation’s broader strength—not only in economic growth and physical development, but also in nurturing confidence, emotional maturity, and a strong sense of identity among its youth. “As a sign of support, I am sending a donation of RM100,000 to assist with the team’s preparation and their journey to Europe,” he said, expressing hope that the contribution would further inspire the students to excel. PUTRAJAYA, April 17 -- The Ministry of National Unity (KPN), through the National Library of Malaysia, will launch the “Let’s Read for 10 Minutes” campaign on April 23 in conjunction with World Book and Copyright Day. National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said that the initiative aimed to cultivate a culture of daily reading across all levels of society. He said that although only 10 minutes a day were set aside for reading, the simple habit could have a significant impact in shaping a knowledgeable, critical-thinking and competitive society. “The culture of reading should be made a lifestyle among Malaysians. With just 10 minutes a day, we can instil the value of knowledge that serves as the foundation for building a MADANI society and a more developed nation,” he said in a statement today. Aaron said this year’s campaign, themed “Reading Builds a Nation”, was aligned with the government’s aspiration to reinforce nation-building through knowledge cultivation and reading habits among Malaysians. “In line with the mission of making Malaysia a Reading Nation by 2030, KPN will continue to intensify and expand the implementation of inclusive and continuous reading promotion programmes,” he said. Aaron also called on all parties, regardless of background, including civil servants, non-governmental organisations, school students, students of higher learning institutions, as well as the private sector and corporate bodies, to take part in the campaign.

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 APRIL -- Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Terengganu today for a one-day working visit, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring that national development initiatives effectively meet the needs of the people. Upon arrival, he proceeded to Bukit Payong in Marang to officiate the groundbreaking ceremony of the Terengganu Matriculation College (KMT), a long-anticipated project that has been in discussion since 2009 and is scheduled for completion in 2026. Anwar described the project as a clear reflection of the MADANI Government’s resolve to translate the people’s aspirations into tangible outcomes, grounded in the principles of fairness, inclusivity, and justice—particularly in expanding equitable access to education for students in Terengganu. With an initial allocation of RM27 million for 2026, the college is expected to benefit approximately 3,000 students and will be equipped with modern, conducive academic facilities, including pre-university education infrastructure. KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 -- The University of London today announced the launch of its new online postgraduate microcredentials for learners in Malaysia, offering flexible and stackable pathways that support lifelong learning without the need for physical attendance. In a statement, the university said the microcredentials are being offered at an introductory price, providing a more accessible entry point into the United Kingdom (UK) postgraduate-level study. “Delivered fully online via the University of London’s Global Digital Campus, these microcredentials enable learners in Malaysia to start anytime, study anywhere and progress at their own pace. “This makes postgraduate-level education more accessible for working professionals and mid-career learners balancing career and personal commitments,” the statement read. Designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s workforce, the university said the microcredentials are modular and portable, allowing learners to accumulate academic credits that can be stacked towards a recognised postgraduate qualification or transferred into University of London degree programmes from which they are derived. University of London deputy vice-chancellor Prof David Latchman said the online microcredentials are designed to put learners in control of their education, allowing them to study what they need, when they need it and from wherever they are. “For learners in Malaysia, this means access to world-class postgraduate learning with academic direction from globally recognised universities, including University College London (UCL) and City St George's, without the constraints of geography, fixed schedules or traditional entry barriers. “This approach reflects our long-standing commitment to expanding access to higher education globally,” he was quoted in the statement. There are eight microcredentials currently available: three in financial management, guided academically by UCL, and five in global supply chain management, overseen by City, University of London and St George’s. Each microcredential carries 15 postgraduate credits, providing a flexible, lower-commitment pathway into UK postgraduate study without the need for long-term enrolment, relocation, or full-degree tuition. Learners can start immediately, with no complex applications or fixed schedules, offering flexible options for working professionals. “Assessments are designed for working professionals and lifelong learners, with on-demand delivery rather than fixed-term schedules, allowing learners to balance study alongside work, family and other commitments,” the statement read. The University of London has a long-standing presence in Malaysia, with over 16,000 alumni in the country and more than 3,000 students currently enrolled online or through its Recognised Teaching Centres. Globally, the university attracts students from over 190 countries, reflecting its leadership in international distance and digital learning. “For learners in Malaysia, this means access to research-informed academic content from world-leading universities, delivered through a single, integrated digital platform,” the statement added. The statement noted that the microcredentials mark the first phase of the university’s broader vision to expand access to flexible, high-quality higher education worldwide, including throughout Southeast Asia.
