KUALA LUMPUR, MAY 25 -- Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the MADANI Government will continue the BUDI MADANI: BUDI Agri-Komoditi initiative to help small farmers, entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups facing economic pressures caused by global supply chain disruptions and rising living costs. In a statement following the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting today, Anwar said the meeting heard important presentations from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Commodities (KPK) regarding the increasingly challenging global supply chain crisis. He said the government understands the struggles faced by the people amid rising prices and global economic uncertainty, stressing that assistance must continue to ensure the welfare of those most affected. “On that consideration, the Government agrees to continue the BUDI MADANI: BUDI Agri-Komoditi initiative in helping small farmers, entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups who are the backbone of the country’s economy,” he said. Anwar added that the government is also giving serious attention to the healthcare sector, particularly in ensuring the stability of medicine supplies nationwide. According to him, the overall supply of medicines in the country remains stable for now, but the Ministry of Health will continue monitoring stock chain challenges and price fluctuations closely to prevent the rakyat from being burdened by shortages or sudden increases in costs. KUALA LUMPUR -- A total of 11 men were arraigned in the Sessions Court here today on charges of being members of an organised crime group known as the "RT6 Gang" from 2020. A. Raja Ratanam, K. Sunthreson, C. Vijaya Kumar, N. Nadarajah, T. Raman, R. Vijayan, M. Kumaaran, N. Harichandran, S. Maran, Suwaran Singh Minder Singh and Mohammad Atif Khan Mohammad Ali Khan, aged 22 to 48, nodded in understanding after the charges were read out separately before Judge Izralizam Sanusi. No confession was recorded from them as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. According to the charges, they are alleged to have been members of the "RT6 Gang" organised crime group in the Sentul district between 14 Jan 2020 and 27 April 2026. The charge was brought under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code which provides for a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years, if convicted. The court did not grant them bail and set June 24 for the case to be mentioned again for the submission of documents. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Lokman Kasim and Yazid Mustaqim Roslan. At the proceedings, the defense was lined up by lawyers Datuk Rajpal Singh, Eu Kah Mun, M. Mathaven, Grace Francis, Muhammad Izzhar Idris, S. Kirthen, S. Premila and Kelvin Francis. Only Nadarajah and Raman were not represented by lawyers. Yesterday, the media reported that the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department successfully dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate known as the RT Gang through action under the Special Security Measures Act 2012. Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the syndicate is believed to have been active in drug processing and distribution activities as well as violent crimes around the Klang Valley since 2020. -- BERNAMA

SIK -- A mechanic was again brought to court today on three charges of possessing firearms, ammunition and imitation weapons, earlier this month. Mohd Shahifuldin Mohd Shahiran, 46, pleaded not guilty to all charges before Sessions Court Judge Rohaida Ishak here. For the first charge, he was charged with possessing a Remington Model 1100 rifle made in the United States without a valid license or permit at a house in Kampung Luar Siong, Baling at about 6pm on May 6. The charge was brought under Section 8 of the Firearms (Heavier Penalties) Act 1971 which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and whipping of not less than six strokes, if convicted. The man was also charged with possessing 156 live ammunition of various types without a valid license or permit at the same time and date. For the offence, the charge was made under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960 which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years or a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or both, if convicted. In addition, Mohd Shahifuldin was charged with possessing an imitation pistol labeled Glock 19 Gen 4 made in Austria along with a magazine of bullets without a valid reason at the location on the same time and date. For the offence, the charge was made under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 which provides for a maximum prison sentence of one year or a fine of up to RM5,000 or both, if convicted. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Nadia Jamal, while the man was not represented by a lawyer. The court did not grant bail and set July 12 for mention of the case. On May 13, Mohd Shahifuldin pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court and Magistrate's Court in Baling to five charges related to possession of firearms, ammunition and imitation weapons. -- BERNAMA

PUTRAJAYA -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has agreed to restore the online vehicle transfer of title (THM) transaction service immediately and any system delays for improvements will be implemented during this long holiday weekend. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the decision was reached as a result of discussions with RTD Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, following media reports regarding the suspension of the service last night. "JPJ has informed the Ministry of Transport (MOT) regarding abuse and fraud occurring in the title transfer system, resulting in liabilities that need to be borne by JPJ. Therefore, JPJ needs to make improvements to the online system immediately. "However, I have advised JPJ to ensure that the system improvement work does not disrupt the daily affairs of ordinary users and does not cause major congestion at JPJ offices," he said in a post on Facebook today. The media previously reported the temporary suspension of all online vehicle THM transactions effective today, involving all digital channels including public portals, kiosks and its business partners MyEG and eAuto Sdn Bhd. -- BERNAMA

PUTRAJAYA -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) will immediately obtain a report from the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) regarding the alleged increase in vegetable prices in Kelantan to RM2 per kilogram. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said that so far there has been no sudden increase in vegetable prices in most areas, including the Klang Valley, except for certain types of vegetables. "In Kelantan, we will monitor (the prices). I will request a report from FAMA immediately today," he told reporters after launching the Kebuniti Agricultural Information Centre or Gardentopia, here today. Mohamad was commenting on reports of increased vegetable prices in several markets in Kelantan, which have increased by up to RM2 per kilogram due to prolonged hot weather and rising diesel costs. Commenting on the issue of food inflation, although it remained stable, Mohamad said the increase in fertilizer prices, which was one of the factors increasing the cost of raw supplies, was a global challenge facing many countries. He said the issue was also discussed at the international level, including by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) following conflicts in several areas producing raw materials such as phosphate. "It is predicted worldwide that this fertilizer issue will be a problem because the disputed area is involved in phosphate issues and so on. The government will intervene from time to time according to our government's capabilities," he said. Meanwhile, Mohamad assured that the current supply of fertilizer in Malaysia is still sufficient, although agricultural input prices are expected to continue to be monitored over the next two to three months. "Supply is sufficient...we just have to look at the price in the next two to three months. Regarding supply in Malaysia, Alhamdulillah, we at the ministry see that the situation is sufficient. In a statement yesterday, Anwar said Malaysia had received encouraging indications from leaders in West Asia that the negotiations were progressing positively. “I view these developments with earnest optimism,” he said. PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) has announced that the livestock supply for this year's Aidiladha celebration is sufficient to meet current needs throughout the country. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in a statement today informed that based on statistics from the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) until last April, the local supply of cattle and buffaloes was 35,127 heads while the imported supply was 16,845 heads. "This brings the total supply of cows and buffaloes for sacrificial purposes to 51,972, exceeding the estimated needs of institutions such as mosques, suraus and slaughterhouses, which are expected to be 40,420," the statement said. For the supply of goats and sheep, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that local stocks were recorded at 25,815 heads while imported supplies were 4,232 heads, bringing the total to 30,047 heads compared to the current demand forecast of 22,424 heads. Through the data projection, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development guarantees that the total livestock supply in the country is sufficient to meet the demand for slaughter for sacrificial purposes this year. In terms of infrastructure readiness, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that 27 DVS-owned slaughterhouses throughout Peninsular Malaysia are ready to operate for the purpose of slaughtering sacrificial livestock. "In addition, DVS also issued licenses to 43 private slaughterhouses throughout Peninsular Malaysia until March 16 to offer legal slaughtering services to the community," the statement said. KPKM informs that organisers who wish to carry out animal slaughter activities outside slaughterhouses such as in mosques, suraus, schools, residential areas and public places are required to submit an application for an outside slaughter permit along with relevant documents to obtain approval. The ministry also recommends that the public always refer to the Guidelines for the Slaughter of Sacrificial Animals issued by DVS as a basic reference to ensure that the entire process of implementing the sacrificial ritual goes smoothly and complies with the set standards. -- BERNAMA

BUKIT MERTAJAM -- Two factories and a workers' dormitory were destroyed in a fire in Lorong Industri Ringan 4, Juru Light Industrial Area, here yesterday. Assistant Director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Penang, John Sagun Francis, said his department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.25pm. "Eight people who were in the factory and dormitory managed to escape, consisting of one Myanmar and one Vietnamese worker each, as well as two local workers and three Nepalese workers," he said in a statement today. He said the fire was completely extinguished at 10.22pm before the operation ended two hours later after his team ensured that there were no embers or the spread of fire there. According to him, 30 officers and firefighters from three fire stations and rescuers were involved in the firefighting operation and were also assisted by more than 100 people from 17 Volunteer Fire Departments. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR -- A luxury vehicle belonging to a former national football player and motivational expert was among 1,814 vehicles seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) through the Special Operation for Luxury Vehicles (Op Luxury) nationwide. JPJ Deputy Director-General (Planning and Operations) Datuk Jazmanie Shafawi said that of the total, 915 vehicles of various brands including Porsche and Lamborghini were detected and seized this year, while 899 vehicles were seized last year, including for failing to renew their Motor Vehicle Licenses (LKM). He said the confiscation of the former national football player's vehicle was carried out early yesterday morning following three offences, namely lack of insurance coverage and LKM and a driving licence that had expired since December last year. "In the past five months, the former player has still failed to obtain insurance and a valid LKM for his vehicle," he said at a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory (WPKL) JPJ Seized Depot here last night. Also present was JPJ Enforcement Senior Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan. Jazmanie said the motivational expert's vehicle, estimated to be worth more than RM500,000, was impounded on the Damansara-Puchong Highway due to the fact that the LKM expired by almost a month, there was no insurance and it was still displaying the old registration number even though the vehicle had had its number changed. He stressed that failure to renew the LKM is a serious offence under the Road Transport Act 1987 and the JPJ will not compromise on imposing compound action and confiscation on the vehicles involved. "The usual excuse given by vehicle owners is that they overlooked it, but this is unreasonable because the MyJPJ application will actually issue a warning notice when the vehicle license is about to expire," he said. Jazmanie said using a vehicle without a valid LKM poses a great risk to the owner and other road users because the vehicle is not covered by insurance in the event of an accident. -- BERNAMA
