JOHOR, JULY 7-- Khairy Jamaluddin said he spent three packed and energetic days in Johor from July 2 to 4, joining the campaign efforts of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates ahead of the Johor State Election. Khairy said he visited several constituencies to support BN candidates, including DUN N18 Sri Medan with Datuk Zulkurnain Kamisan, DUN N21 Parit Yaani with Datuk Najib Samuri, DUN N25 Rengit with Zaidi Japar, DUN N24 Senggarang with Yusla Ismail, DUN N54 Pulai Sebatang with Hajah Hasrunizah Hassan, and DUN N53 Benut with Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan. His campaign activities also included a walkabout in DUN N34 Panti, a motorcycle convoy in DUN N42 Tebrau, and the Himpunan Anak Tiram gathering in DUN N40 Tiram alongside BN Chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. JOHOR BAHRU, July 7  -- As the Johor state election campaign enters its final phase and political parties increasingly turn to national issues, Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Kukup seat, Cheah Chee Hong, has opted for a different approach by focusing entirely on local issues. He said voters now want to hear solutions to the problems they face every day rather than debates on national politics. "Today, I don't want to talk about politics or national issues because everyone already sees those every day on social media. I only want to talk about Kukup," he told Bernama when contacted here today. Cheah said that after more than a week of campaigning, he managed to visit various areas in Kukup and listened firsthand to residents' grievances before identifying the priorities that should be addressed if elected as their representative. According to him, among the issues most frequently raised were the long-standing problem of poor rubbish collection, weak internet coverage and unstable electricity supply, which has damaged residents' electrical appliances. He said resolving these basic issues must be the priority before Kukup can be developed into a national-level tourist destination. Cheah also outlined proposals to upgrade infrastructure, including roads, street lighting, parking facilities and tourism amenities, as well as strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) to promote Kukup. He said Kukup's strategic location near Johor Bahru, the upcoming Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System, and its position within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone are advantages that should be leveraged to boost tourism and the local economy. Cheah also proposed establishing a large-scale night market to provide business opportunities for local residents, with the aim of increasing their income while attracting more tourists. He said he hoped his campaign, centred on solving local issues, would convince voters ahead of polling day, while also urging Kukup natives living outside the constituency to return home to fulfil their voting responsibility. Kukup is seeing a straight fight between Cheah and Barisan Nasional candidate Md Israk Abdullah. Early voting is today while polling will be held on July 11. -- BERNAMA

JOHOR BAHRU, July 6 -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Permas State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sharon Teo Siew Hui, today announced six offers under the "Permas Kita Settle" manifesto which focus on solving infrastructure issues, traffic congestion, youth development, women and family well-being and community empowerment. He said the offer was formulated based on feedback from residents, results from field visits and studies with several think tanks to identify the main issues in the Permas DUN. "From the survey and feedback we received in the field, infrastructure issues are actually the main issue in Permas. That is what we hear from the people," he said at a press conference here today. Teo said the results of the audit would later form the basis for the preparation of the Permas Traffic Plan 2030 to address congestion problems, especially on the Permas Jaya to Pasir Gudang route. He said other offers were the establishment of the Permas Youth Hub , making Permas more women and family friendly, empowering the Sabah and Sarawak communities including upgrading the Borneo Market and holding regular Permas Community Dialogues. Commenting on the demographics of voters, Teo said the 18 to 39-year-old group comprised approximately 53 percent of the total 113,963 voters in the Permas DUN, thus making the youth agenda among the priorities in his bid. Therefore, he hopes that voters, including young people and voters on the fence, will give him the opportunity to serve in Permas for five years, by bringing the experience he gained while serving as a special assistant to the late former Pulai Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub since 2018. With five days left before the vote this Saturday, Teo has chosen the approach of listening to the people's voices and reaching out to voters regardless of race as the focus of his campaign. "I will treat the people as well as possible, regardless of race. I will sit and discuss with them. If you want to be a representative of the people, the first thing you need to do is listen to what the people want," he said. He said voter sentiment in the area was also increasingly positive as more and more voters gave words of encouragement throughout the campaign period.
