KUALA LUMPUR, june 21 -- Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul confirmed that he has received a letter of notification regarding the position of Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as Opposition Leader. When contacted by Bernama, he also informed that the Dewan Rakyat meeting which begins tomorrow will involve several changes in the seats of MPs. This includes the seat of Pagoh Member of Parliament and Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, which was made at his own request. Based on the seating plan for MPs on the official Parliament website updated to June 19, Muhyiddin is currently placed in Block E in the Dewan Rakyat. Hamzah's position as Opposition Leader remains unchanged at the front row in the opposition bloc and is placed next to Kemaman Member of Parliament and Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. Previously, PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, during the Reset Malaysia Convention, announced that Hamzah would return to his duties as Opposition Leader. According to the Dewan Rakyat calendar, the Second Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 15th Parliament will take place from June 22 to July 16. -- BERNAMA

JOHOR BAHRU, June 21 — Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister R. Ramanan has expressed confidence in the readiness of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (KEADILAN) machinery in Kempas as preparations intensify for the upcoming Johor State Election. During a visit to the KEADILAN Main Operations Room for the Kempas state constituency, Ramanan was briefed on the party's strategic planning, campaign coordination and ongoing preparations leading up to polling day. The visit provided an opportunity for the party leader to assess the preparedness of grassroots members and election workers tasked with mobilising support in the constituency during the crucial weeks ahead. Ramanan said the briefing highlighted the commitment and dedication demonstrated by the KEADILAN Kempas team in ensuring the party is well-positioned for the state election campaign. JOHOR BAHRU, June 21 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) will officially unveil its candidates for the 16th Johor State Election (PRN Johor) at a major gathering scheduled to take place at Bukit Gambir Extreme Park tomorrow evening. JOHOR BAHRU, JUNE 20 -- The Malaysian Democratic Alliance (MUDA) has announced Puteri Wangsa State Assembly Service Centre Chief Officer Rashifa Aljunied, 26, as a candidate for the Puteri Wangsa State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat in the Johor State Election (PRN). The announcement was made by MUDA President Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, who is also the former incumbent of the seat. "The decision to place Rashifa as a candidate was made after in-depth discussions with the top leadership and party machinery," he said at a press conference announcing the party's candidate for the first series today. Amira Aisya said her decision not to defend the seat was to contest at the Parliamentary level in the upcoming 16th General Election (GE-16). It is understood that MUDA will make a second series of candidate announcements for several more seats in the capital tomorrow. In the 2022 Johor state election, the Puteri Wangsa state seat was the only seat won by MUDA. Amira Aisya won the six-cornered contest in the seat with a majority of 7,114 votes, defeating Barisan Nasional (BN) challenger Ng Yew Aik. JOHOR BAHRU, JUNE 20 -- DAP today announced four candidates to contest in the Johor State Election (PRN) on July 11. The four candidates are Deputy Finance Minister's Private Secretary Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani, 38, who is set to contest in the Tiram State Legislative Assembly seat, while Johor DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) chief Lee Wern Yiing, 30, will contest in Johor Jaya. Meanwhile, special assistant to Kulai MP Mohamad Shafwan Ani, 33, has been placed to contest in the Bukit Permai state seat while former Senai state seat incumbent Wong Bor Yang, 40, has been entrusted with defending the seat in this state election. The announcement of the four candidates was made by DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke at the candidate announcement ceremony here today, which was also attended by Johor DAP Chairman Teo Nie Ching and his deputy Wong Shu Qi. Loke said that for the first time, the party decided to field a candidate to contest in the Tiram state constituency, which is a mixed seat, because it was confident that it would receive support and that the candidate chosen would be among the best. Touching on the skirmishes in the Senai and Bukit Permai state constituencies, Loke said it was part of Pakatan Harapan's (PH) strategy to fully control the state constituencies under the Kulai Parliament which has three state constituencies. JOHOR BAHRU, June 20 -- Party Amanah will field more fresh faces, including youth and women candidates, in the upcoming Johor State Election. Johor Amanah Chairman Aminolhuda Hassan stated that out of the 19 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats the party will contest, roughly six or seven candidates are individuals who have run in previous elections. "The rest are fresh faces, and out of that number, half consist of youth candidates," he told reporters at the launch of the South Zone Amanah Election Machinery here today, which was also attended by Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. Aminolhuda added that the party has also shortlisted two women candidates so far. Commenting on the areas Amanah will contest in this Johor State Election, he explained that it covers six seats in the northern zone, five in the central zone, while the remainder are in the east coast and southern zones of Johor. Meanwhile, Mohamad said that the party machinery is now fully prepared to face the state election. KOTA KINABALU, June 19 -- The United Kinabalu Progressive Organisation (UPKO) is committed to contributing to efforts to strengthen and empower Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to spearhead the leadership, administration and development of the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Its president Datuk Ewon Benedick said the commitment was following UPKO's acceptance as a GRS component party after its application to join the coalition was officially received yesterday. The Sabah Deputy Chief Minister also expressed his appreciation to Hajiji as the GRS chairman and a member of the Supreme Council for accepting UPKO as a component party. “GRS is the only coalition of local parties in Sabah, so this should be the real home of political parties from Sabah. “Only local Sabah parties truly understand the image of Sabah in developing its future through what has been agreed upon in the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said in a statement today. JOHOR BAHRU: PKR's list of candidates for the State Elections (PRN) in Johor and Negeri Sembilan is now 99 percent final, said its Secretary-General Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh. He said the party would contest 20 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in Johor and 16 seats in Negeri Sembilan, while the official announcement of candidates was expected to be made in the next few days. "We will feature a balanced mix of old and new faces, including women and young people. Regarding the percentage of new faces, wait for the announcement later," he told reporters after attending the Rahmah Sales Program at Econsave Taman Daya, here today. Commenting on Amanah Johor's claim against the Puteri Wangsa state seat, Fuziah said the issue of the seat dispute had been handed over entirely to the top leadership of the component parties to be resolved. Previously, Johor Amanah Vice Chairman Dr Zuhan Zain did not agree with the seat being handed over to PKR, stating that the seat belonged to them after being loaned to the Malaysian Democratic Alliance Party (MUDA) in the 2022 general election. "That (their claim of the seat) is a claim from Amanah Johor, but this matter will be resolved at the highest level," he said. Touching on the status of action against Subang MP Wong Chen who challenged PKR to sack him following a disciplinary investigation, Fuziah said the matter had been submitted to the party's Disciplinary Board for further action. The Election Commission (EC) has set the nomination day for the Johor state election on June 27, while polling day will be on July 11 after the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) was dissolved on June 1. The Johor state assembly has 56 seats and before the dissolution, Barisan Nasional (BN) controlled 40 seats followed by Pakatan Harapan (PH) (12), Perikatan Nasional (PN) (three) and MUDA (one). Meanwhile, the Negeri Sembilan state election is set for August 1 with the nomination dates on July 18 and July 28 for early voting. The Negeri Sembilan state assembly, which has 36 seats, was dissolved on June 5 and before the dissolution, PH controlled 17 seats, BN (14) and PN (five). -- BERNAMA
