KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Finance (MOF) will block the cards of individuals found to have abused the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) assistance programme by filling subsidised RON95 petrol into empty barrels or containers, as has gone viral recently. MOF stressed that such action clearly violates regulations because it constitutes misuse of fuel subsidies under the BUDI95 initiative and could affect the government's efforts to ensure transparent, targeted and effective subsidy management. "Investigations found that the individual involved is a Malaysian and a MyKad holder. Following that, the MOF will take action by blocking the identity card used during that transaction, as well as the vehicle owner, from continuing to enjoy BUDI95,” it said in a statement today. The government, the MOF said, will not compromise on any form of subsidy leakages and misuse, especially amid current uncertainties that require close control over fuel supply and prices. Earlier, a video clip went viral depicting two individuals at a petrol station filling subsidised RON95 petrol into a container placed in the boot of a vehicle. According to the MOF, enforcement actions will continue to be intensified to curb such irresponsible activities, adding that the government appreciates the efforts of caring members of the public in channelling complaints regarding this matter. Members of the public are encouraged to continue providing information and lodging complaints if they detect any suspicious activities related to subsidy distribution by contacting the BUDI MADANI Service Centre at 1300-88-9595, via WhatsApp +603-26314595 or by email at budimadani@treasury.gov.my.

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia has expressed concern over the escalating security situation in southern Lebanon and rising regional tensions following a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Lebanese counterpart, Nawaf Salam. During the call, Anwar extended Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1447H greetings while discussing the latest developments in Lebanon, particularly the worsening security and humanitarian conditions. He also conveyed Malaysia’s appreciation to the Lebanese Government for its continued support in ensuring the safety and welfare of Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) personnel serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), enabling them to carry out their duties effectively despite challenging circumstances. KUALA LUMPUR — The 219th Police Day celebration was marked nationwide today with a strong sense of pride and patriotism, honouring the dedication and sacrifices of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in safeguarding the country’s peace and sovereignty for more than 200 years. The annual event not only reflected on the force’s long-standing history but also paid tribute to the unwavering commitment of its personnel in serving both the nation and the community. In the capital, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended the celebration at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (PULAPOL), where he officiated the launch of the MESRA PDRM Book, a crime awareness initiative aimed at children and teenagers. Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Deputy IGP Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. In Selangor, approximately 200 attendees comprising police officers, personnel, retirees and members of the public gathered at the North Klang district police headquarters (IPD) celebration held at the hall of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Soo Jin in Kapar. North Klang police chief ACP S. Vijaya Rao presented certificates of appreciation to 50 recipients, including 20 members of the public, in recognition of their cooperation, information sharing and active involvement in police initiatives throughout the past year. In Negeri Sembilan, the celebration was officiated by state deputy police chief SAC Mohd Nasharudin Mohd Shariff, who delivered the Inspector-General of Police’s message before an audience of 275 officers and personnel. Certificates of appreciation were also awarded to 17 individuals, including NGO representatives, members of the public and media personnel, for their contributions and support towards PDRM. Meanwhile, in Pahang, state police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman attended the event at the PDRM Logistics Complex in Kuantan, where 22 individuals comprising officers, personnel and members of the public received letters of appreciation for their service and dedication. In Terengganu, 43 recipients, including police personnel, officers and members of the Terengganu Police Family Association (PERKEP), were recognised for their excellent service at the state-level celebration held at the police contingent headquarters (IPK). The event, which featured poetry recitals, a war dance performance and a special montage, took place at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin and was officiated by Terengganu deputy police chief SAC Suffian Sulaiman, with around 500 attendees. In Perlis, state deputy police chief SAC Zaihairul Idrus officiated the celebration at the Perlis IPK hall in Kangar, where 48 recipients, including PDRM strategic partners such as SUKSIS, auxiliary police, retirees and media practitioners, were honoured with letters of appreciation. In Penang, state deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin, representing state police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail, delivered the Inspector-General of Police’s message to about 400 officers and civil servants at the Marine Police Force Region 1 headquarters community hall in Batu Uban, George Town. He also presented letters of appreciation to 14 strategic partners, including Penang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Datuk S. Karunanithy, as well as 17 PERKEP members, acknowledging their continued cooperation with the police. In Sarawak, the state-level celebration was officiated by Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak at the Sarawak IPK. The ceremony saw police personnel and members of the public receiving letters of appreciation for their contributions and dedication to the Sang Saka Biru force and society, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony symbolising the occasion

KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia maintains its stance that all disputes in West Asia must be resolved through peaceful means to ease escalating tensions in the region, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said dialogue, diplomacy and close cooperation among nations remained the only way forward to de-escalate tensions and restore stability, in line with humanitarian imperatives and the principles of universal justice. Anwar said this in a Facebook post after holding telephone conversations with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, Prince Salman Hamad Al Khalifa, and the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohamed Zayed Al Nahyan, today. “I expressed deep concern over the prolonged tensions and their implications for regional security and the well-being of the people, while also conveying condolences over the loss of lives and damage to property resulting from the retaliatory attacks,” he said. Apart from discussing regional security issues, Anwar said he and the two leaders also exchanged Aidilfitri greetings and expressed hope for the well-being, peace and prosperity of their respective nations. Regional tensions have continued to escalate since the United States (US) and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb 28. Tehran responded by launching drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq and Gulf states hosting US military assets, resulting in casualties and infrastructure damage, in addition to disrupting global markets and the aviation sector.

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 16 -- Police have arrested another individual to assist in investigations into the murder of a man at a hotel in Sunway Mentari, Petaling Jaya on July 8. Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the man, in his 40s, was arrested last Monday and remanded for four days until tomorrow to assist in the investigation. He said the remand period of two men in their 20s and 30s who were previously detained expired today, and would be extended to assist with investigations. "The investigation papers regarding this case will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor this week," he said in a statement today. Previously, the media reported that a man in his 30s was found unconscious in a hotel before being reported dead at 11.23pm. Initial examination found signs of injury on the victim's body, and the results of the autopsy at the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) confirmed the cause of death was severe injuries due to the impact of a blunt object. -- BERNAMA
